2 Armed Robbers Thwarted By Armed Store Clerk

A Yakima, Washington store clerk thwarted two armed, masked robbers at the end of February all due to the fact that he was also armed and willing to defend himself against their aggression.

When the two men entered the In & Out Mini Mart and demanded the clerk hand over money, Hani “Sonny” Salha not only didn’t hand over the money, but he pulled out his gun and opened fire on the two men.

“I would do whatever it takes to protect my business, my family and my customers,” Salha said.

Salha was working around 9pm on a Sunday when he witnessed the men, via a surveillance camera, putting on bandannas to cover their faces in the parking lot.

As the men entered the store, the brandished guns and demanded money from Salha.  However, Salha was ready for them, having already grabbed his .40 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol and open fire on the men.  He fired two shots, which was enough to scare the men into fleeing the store.

“I think that went between his legs,” Salha said pointing to a bullet hole in the door.

The two robbers are described as being between 18 and 24 years of age and between 5’3″ and 5’8″ tall.

Salha was well within his rights to defend himself against the robbers and Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney Joe Brusic agrees.

However, a Yamika police captain claims it is safer to give them what they want.

The Yamika Herald reports:

Yakima Police Capt. Jeff Schneider said police prefer that people just give a robber what he is asking for, rather than resist and possibly escalate the situation.

“By and large, in almost 100 percent of the cases, the robbers will take the money and no one will get hurt,” Schneider said.

In other words, Capt. Schneider is simply being a coward.  He would rather allow the criminal to have victory than people actually stand up to crime and stop it.

Salha disagrees and was happy to exercise his rights to defend himself.

“It’s good to see business owners and homeowners fighting back,” Salha said.

I’m glad Mr. Salha wasn’t a coward.  If robbers are willing to steal from you, they are willing to kill you and anyone else who stand in their way, especially if they are entering your place armed.

Washington is known for being a little hostile towards gun ownership, as evidenced by I594.  People took to the capitol in what was considered to be one of the largest felony protests in history against the pretended legislation.

I’m glad they weren’t cowards either against a criminal government wanting to trample on their rights.  Well done, Mr. Salha!
