In the wake of the Islamic State kidnapping and murdering 21 Egyptian Christians, the government of Egypt has responded with both precision bombings on the Islamic State in Libya, and by requesting help from the international community.

Two waves of attacks took place on Monday as the Egyptian military joined with the Libyan military to bring some justice to the ISIS thugs.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

After the initial attack, the Egyptian military released a statement to state run news outlets.

“Let those far and near know that Egyptians have a shield to protect and safeguard the security of the country and a sword that amputates terrorism and extremism.” They also added that the attacks were meant to “to avenge the bloodshed and to seek retribution from the killers.”

The Libyan military gave more specifics, “There are casualties among individuals, ammunition and the [ISIS] communication centers. More airstrikes will be carried out today and tomorrow in coordination with Egypt.”

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi urged the international community to get involved in the fight against the Islamic State in Libya saying, “What is happening in Libya is a threat to international peace and security. These cowardly actions will not undermine our determination.”

After the second wave of attacks the Egyptian military promised the Islamic State that their efforts would continue so long as ISIS continued taking Egyptian lives, “Avenging Egyptian blood and punishing criminals and murderers is our right and duty.” The military also echoed President el-Sissi’s statement on the need for international efforts in Libya. “Leaving the situation as it is in Libya without a firm intervention to curtail these terrorist organizations would be a threat to international peace and security.”

The question now seems to be: how will the international community respond?
