So, An Alabama Pastor Drops His Wife Off At An Abortion Clinic… For Work

Pastor Louis Chatman of New Elam Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama dropped his wife off at a local abortion clinic recently and was caught on video doing so. However, his wife was not going to murder her unborn child, but was going to work there defending women who do murder their unborn children.

According to Ms. Chatman’s LinkedIn profile, she is a licensed, ordained Minister New Elam Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. It also says she works at Reproductive Health Services abortion clinic in Montgomery.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

In what can only be described as using the grace of God for a license to sin, Chatman told the Christian Post after she had been caught on video arriving in a Mercedes to work at a local abortion clinic, “I feel that we have all sinned. None of us are perfect. No sin is greater than any sin. I don’t know why, other than that’s the only decision [abortion] that a woman could make. That’s her right to make that decision because that’s her body.”

Actually, as I’ve argued before, the woman’s body isn’t the one being pulled out from inside her limb by limb and discarded into a toilet or trash can. It’s the baby’s body. Therefore, it’s murder.

Second, the claim that “no sin is great than any sin” is in total contrast with all of Scripture. For instance, there were sins that required the death penalty and there were sins that only required restitution. Some sins have a far greater impact upon men and society than others. So, no, all sins are not equal. They all are a violation of God’s Law, but they vary in degree and in punishment.

All of this became controversial when Chatman dropped off his wife for work and it was caught on video. David Day, who posted the video on February 26, 2015 wrote, “Sadly, this is a Montgomery pastor dropping off his wife who works at the abortuary here in Montgomery. We have spoken to her often and the only response we get is that God forgives and we are not to judge. Her husband is the pastor of New Elam Baptist Church. Her son works here as well as the security.”

Wow! It seems that I recall a pastor is to have his family in check and that he is to be above reproach (1 Tim. 3:4, 7; Titus 1:6-7).  Yet, his wife works at an abortion clinic and his son is a security guard there.

While no one is passing some sort of final judgment on anyone here, the fruit seems to be showing here. Some may claim that we should have compassion for those women contemplating murdering their children in the womb. I do have compassion on them by speaking to them, confronting them with the truth of what they are contemplating, calling them to repentance and to do what is right before God, not telling them that God loves them and will forgive them when they are set on violating His Law. That is presumption, not the gospel of Grace.

“While it is sad that while babies are murdered and this issue with the pastor and his family, it shows the heart of man,” Day wrote. “Man’s heart is desperately wicked. (Jerimiah 17:9). What they do is normal for unrepentant sinners. The thing that always perplexes me is why did Christ die for those who twist His Word, for those who murder babies? Because He does love us. We have all heard the stories of people repenting of sin who have worked in the abortion industry. Pray for the family, pray for those who work at the abortuary, pray for the parents who each week come to murder their baby. May God show them mercy and grace as He has shown to even the chief of sinners.”

Amen! May He grant such repentance among those engaging in this practice.

I’m highly doubting he is following a biblical form of church government so I suggest that his congregation remove him from the pulpit as he is giving the world a reason to blaspheme God because of what he is allowing his wife to engage in.

Pastors should not be dropping their wives off to work at abortion clinics. Instead, they should be following the advice of former abortion clinic manage Abby Johnson and leading the people against such slaughter houses.

Johnson, who attended a Southern Baptist Church during the time she headed up a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic and had two abortions said that she sat in church on Sunday before and after both abortions and was never confronted with her sin.

“When you are silent on the issue of abortion, you are telling the men and women in your congregation one of two things: We don’t really know where God stands on abortion because it’s not ‘technically’ in the Bible… or more than likely you are telling them that their sin is too big to bring to the foot of the cross, and we know that is a lie,” Johnson said.

She finished her talk at last year’s Georgia Right to Life dinner by exhorting pastors to do what Mr. Chatman is not doing.

“Pastors, we need your leadership on this issue,” she pled. “Your people are waiting for you to lead them. Be their leader. Be their shepherd. Tend your flock!”
