It would be hard for anyone to argue that Christian values have been under attack over the past several decades. One needs look no further than the recent firestorm surrounding Indiana’s “Religious Freedom Restoration Act,” signed into law by Republican Governor Mike Pence. As is the case with any war, you need a battle plan to win. Unfortunately, for Christians in America, it’s the LGBT community that so far has the superior strategy, and the full support of the liberal media. Long gone are the days where common sense and traditional values are held in high regards. Modern (read progressive) society dictates a willingness to tolerate nearly any form of behavior over tightly held religious beliefs. Pay no mind to the fact that those who demand tolerance are themselves, the most intolerant.
In an interview last week with Dr. Ben Carson, CNN’s Chris Cuomo lamented that “the LGBT community gets far less legal protection under the Constitution than Christians.” Watch the video clip to see how Dr. Carson responded to this false narrative.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
To understand the strategy of the LGBT community, we need to reflect back on the words of Saul Alinsky and his “Rules for Radicals,” where he wrote, “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.”
In the case of the Indiana law, the target was Memories Pizzeria co-owner Crystal O’Connor. In an interview with local news outlet, Crystal was asked if the pizzeria would cater to a same-sex “wedding.” Ask yourself why a news outlet would even ask this question of a local restaurant owner that had no prior history of refusing service to the homosexual community? Then ask yourself why anyone would feel the need to announce their sexual orientation when placing an order for pizza? The simple fact in the case of Crystal O’Connor was very clear. She became a target because the LGBT community needed one.
In the CNN interview last week, Dr. Ben Carson simply wasn’t playing the game. We need more Christians to stand up and fight back against these false narratives coming from the media. As we head down the road towards the 2016 Presidential election, the issue of religious freedom will be front and center. Although this is not intended as an endorsement of Dr. Carson, I do admire his willingness to push back against Cuomo. Let’s hope that the rest of the GOP hopefuls were paying attention.
