IRS Hacked: More Than 100,000 Taxpayers Compromised

Remember when those “Socialist” Security cards were issued under FDR and they plainly stated that they would not be used to identify you? Obviously, the Social Security system, as well as the IRS, is filled with nothing but lies and corruption. Now, all your information is tied to your Social Security number, and more than 100,000 taxpayers have had their information compromised due to computer hackers.

RT reports:

Hackers have exploited an online service of the Internal Revenue Service to gain access to the information of more than 100,000 American taxpayers, the IRS admits.

The IRS said on Tuesday that its “Get Transcript” service had been breached thousands of times between February and mid-May this year during a span that includes the height of the tax season.

According to the Associated Press, the hackers were able to get tax returns and other tax information hosted on the site.

“In all, about 200,000 attempts were made from questionable email domains, with more than 100,000 of those attempts successfully clearing authentication hurdles,” the agency said. “During this filing season, taxpayers successfully and safely downloaded a total of approximately 23 million transcripts.”

That trove, according to AP, may include Social Security numbers, birthdays and other sensitive information.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

An additional 100,000 people may also have been affected by the breach. The IRS has offered paid credit protection programs for the 104,000 people that they know were compromised, but they are not offering that same protection for these 100,000. Consider the cost of that. Who is paying for it? It’s not the IRS, but the American taxpayer. We pay the IRS’ salary to do a job (an unconstitutional one I might add) and we end up paying when they screw up too.

The information contained in tax returns is more than enough to aid a thief in identity theft. Among the information contained is social security numbers, birthdates, addresses, dependents and spouses.

However, the IRS believes the hackers already have quite a bit of personal information on taxpayers who had their information accessed.

According to IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, the system has been temporarily shut down. However, the targeting of information lasted from February through mid-May! That’s three and a half months and they didn’t do anything about it!

“To get these, our criminals already had to have personal identifiers available and personal information for each taxpayer,” Koskinen said.

Frankly, when Koskinen refers to the hackers as “our criminals,” I confess that I wonder just how true that is, though I understand he may just be referencing them as those who committed the particular crimes of hacking information…. Still, it makes me wonder.

“We’re confident that these are not amateurs, but organized crime syndicates that not only we, but others in the financial industry are dealing with,” he added.

Not only that, but Koskinen admits that the criminals then use the information to submit fraudulent tax returns. This tax season alone, fewer than 15,000 fraudulent returns were processed by the IRS. Though reports indicate that it cost the IRS about $50 million, the reality is that it costs the American people $50 million.

Sean Gallagher points out something interesting in all of this. He writes, “Today’s disclosed data breach did not involve the circumvention of any of the IRS’ core security systems, an IRS spokesperson noted in the agency’s statement. ‘The IRS notes this issue does not involve its main computer system that handles tax filing submission; that system remains secure.'”

The IRS said that it was notifying taxpayers who were compromised. However, it brings up a larger question of the constitutionality of the unaccountable federal behemoth. It also should cause us to think of not reforming the corrupt institution, but abolishing it altogether. This way it cannot be used as a political tool against dissenters of federal administrations and policies.

While I’m pretty sure that Barack Hussein Obama’s information has been kept secret, one does wonder if someone might have attempted to access his information. Perhaps they might have even turned up Lois Lerner’s infamous emails. I guess this just gives the public greater confidence in providing their health information via the Obamacare website under the unconstitutional Affordable Care Act.
