Ben Carson Unloads on Media Following Libelous Politico Article – Former Military Academy Admissions Rep Backs His Claim

Yesterday, the internet was buzzing over the libelous story put out by Politico concerning Ben Carson‘s claims regarding West Point. I dealt with those claims, as well as others. Sadly, many “conservatives” jumped on the bandwagon to call Carson a liar, just as Politico had. Shame on them! They both have egg on their face today. Now the tables have been turned. Politico has retracted their headline and opening paragraph. Furthermore, Dr. Carson has given the media a well-deserved beatdown for pushing the lie of Politico, and a former military academy admissions representative has come out and backed his claims.

First, note the difference in the title of Politico’s story now: Exclusive: Carson claimed West Point ‘scholarship’ but never applied. That’s a far cry from their previous claim that Carson’s campaign had admitted fabricating the story.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The new opening paragraph has also been changed that continues to promote something Dr. Carson never said.

“Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson on Friday conceded that he never applied nor was granted admission to West Point and attempted to recast his previous claims of a full scholarship to the military academy — despite numerous public and written statements to the contrary over the last few decades.”

Dr. Carson has never said he applied nor was granted admission to West Point, so the story is now nothing but trying to convince people the Dr. Carson is continuing some sort of coverup for something he never claimed. I pointed this out in yesterday’s column.

Still, Politico added an editor’s note that states, “POLITICO stands by its reporting on this story, which has been updated to reflect Ben Carson’s on the record response.”

Well, go ahead. Stand by your reporting, which has been proven to be an outright lie if you must. And for alleged “conservatives” who want to stand by the reporting of Politico on this piece, again I say, shame on you.

However, Dr. Carson was not one to back down from the media attacks. He spoke out on the Politico article and pointed out their hypocrisy as well.

“I do not remember this level of scrutiny for one president Barack Obama when he was running,” Carson said. “In fact, I remember just the opposite.”

And to this day, they don’t scrutinize Barack Hussein Obama Soetoro Soebarkah. They don’t investigate his fraudulent birth certificate, his ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, his treason, his stolen Social Security number, his fake Selective Service registration or anything else. They are complicit Obama’s treason against the united States.

What many liberal and conservative outlets perceived as the end of Carson in the GOP campaign, has seemed to resulted in the opposite effect as Carson has gained support because of Politico’s admitting it lied about the Carson campaign admitting to lying about fabricating a story that was never the story Politico presented.

However, I was contacted yesterday following the publication of my article by a legal immigrant to the US, who came to the States in 1948. This gentleman also became a volunteer Military Academy Admissions Representative and a USMA Admissions Field Force Coordinator. He asked to be unnamed, but did respond to the Politico story and affirmed Carson’s claims.

“I am a graduate of USMA in 1957, when the service requirement for Graduates was 4 years of active duty and four years of Reserve duty, unless the needs of the service (war) required longer active duty service,” he wrote. “I am not a supporter of Ben Carson for President, although I have a great deal of respect for him as a surgeon and as a moral man. I have over ten years as a Field Force representative for West Point Admissions, and am still active in assisting candidates to attain their goal of an Appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point.”

“Admissions representatives, Field Force Officers like myself, most likely evaluated young Ben Carson’s academic, leadership, and athletic records and concluded that as a Black candidate, he would have a 100% chance of winning and appointment to West Point, assuming that he would also be medically qualified,” he explained. “Since he had not been medically evaluated nor applied to West Point, what he received was assurances that his qualifications (assuming medical qualification) made an appointment to USMA a sure thing, if he applied.”

He also affirmed that there was no scholarship for the US Military Academy.

“But an appointment to USMA at that time frame, meant that he could count on a cost free education in terms of financial outlay. There was in that time frame a small cash outlay for initial uniforms, books, slide rule, etc, that would be waived if a candidate’s family could not afford the few hundred dollars involved. The Cadets or appointees would be paid or reimbursed for transportation from their home to West Point, and those funds would be used for part of the initial costs. The Academy would fund the difference as a loan to the appointee New Cadet after taking the Oath of service as a Cadet. A cadet would have certain expenses for uniforms, books, and other equipment during his four years as a cadet. However, the cadet in those days was paid a monthly salary equal to 1/2 the pay of a 2d Lieutenant in the Army. In addition, the Cadet was paid a housing allowance and a rations allowance. The housing and rations allowance was paid into the cadet’s bottom account along with the majority of his after tax salary. A small amount was deposited into his top account for the Cadet to spend for toiletry items, and other odd expenses not associated with his Cadet requirements. The ration allowance and housing allowance would be deducted from his bottom account and paid to the Academy for all times during which the Cadet was in residence at West Point and being fed at the Academy dining facility., or whenever the cadets were on summer assignments at military facilities and being housed and fed by the military. If the Cadet had been granted the initial loan for uniforms and school supplies, the loan would be paid for out of the bottom account over a relatively few months after entering West Point.”

“In all cases, the Cadets accumulate enough funds in their bottom account over their four years as a Cadet, to be able to pay for their Military Officer’s Uniforms on graduation, and have a modest down payment to purchase an automobile a few months before graduation,” he added.

He then explains how Carson would have understood these things and why he has presented them the way he did.

“To a civilian young man of 17 years, he would interpret that financial situation as a full scholarship offer, that would have been conditional on him applying for an Appointment, fulfilling all of the requirements for application, and actually winning an Appointment through his Congressman or Senator, or through the National Waiting List (That is appointment to vacancies for Congressmen or Senators who had no applicants from their District),” the former volunteer Military Academy Admissions Representative explained. “Given Ben Carson’s academic performance (grades) and other qualifications for leadership and athletics, I have no doubt at all the he would have won an appointment to USMA.  I am certain that my Field Force counterparts in that time period would have assured Ben Carson of that certainty and as a young man still in High School, he had no difficulty in interpreting such assurances as an offer of a full scholarship to West Point.”

He then concluded, “In his book, Ben Carson acknowledges that he decided not to apply because he would have had the 8 year commitment to serve in the Army, and that would keep him from achieving his life’s goal of become a doctor of medicine!”

So, there you have it. An explanation from someone who is not a political supporter of Carson, but knows the ins and outs of the process that is in question. I am not a political supporter of Carson either, but the truth is the issue here and when people attack character when there is not substance at all to the attack, then it should be called out. That was my aim in these two reports.
