Apple pie, young children in school saying the Pledge of Allegiance with their hand on their hearts, Leave It to Beaver, Little House on the Prairie, the 10 Commandments, prayer in school, morals, and values: That’s the good old America I know. It’s an America founded upon the Bible and the Constitution with leaders such as George Washington and John Adams. It’s an America where we had respect for our leaders because they could be trusted and were willing to lead our country away from Tyranny, and were not tyrants themselves.
I’m looking for the America that was a light to the world, where right it was clearly right (Exodus 20) and wrong was clearly wrong and people were willing to stand up for what they believed, not cower at the first sign of opposition (Proverbs 28:1).
I’m longing for an America where the realization of loving your brother was seen in action daily in the lives of people (I John 3:18) and where you left your door unlocked at night because you knew that you, your loved ones, and property were safe because the fear of God was in the hearts of the people (Proverbs 9:10). Again, I ask where did that America go?
Imagine if you woke up tomorrow morning and found yourself in the 1950s for example? Would you find an America where you would turn on the TV and find all the immorality, fornication, adultery, homosexuality, violence and all manner of sin you see today? No.
Would you find an America where you would walk down the street and find women scantily dressed, malls filled with immodest ads and posters hanging in their storefront windows, theft, violence, rampant rape, and the outright slaughter of innocent babies being murdered in their mother’s womb? (Proverbs 6:16-17) Not even close.
What you would find is families that sat at the dinner table and prayed together at night. You would find men and women making their marriage covenant before God and to each other before having a baby. You would find an America where goodness, doing right, and being virtuous were praised and evil behavior condemned and brought to justice. In short, you would find (for the most part) an America that still honored God.
What once was a nation that feared God, had pulpits ablaze and thundering with righteousness, and a wonderful sense of right and wrong, justice and truth, has now been replaced with judgment turned backwards and a praising of men who do wickedness and a condemning of those who do right. Would Bruce Jenner have been praised in the 1950s for his “courage”? No, he (and I said he) would not of been tolerated in the slightest degree.
What has become of America, this land in which I love? America (for the most part) has forgotten God, disobeyed His commands, walked off the straight and narrow path, and decided to do things her own way. And we are going to reap what we sow.
Today, if you turn on the TV, what do you see? Immorality and wickedness. If you go to a mall or watch most movies what do you see? Immorality and wickedness. If you pick up a newspaper what do you see? Immorality and wickedness. I could go on and on. What has America sowed? Immorality and wickedness. And what is America going to reap? A whirlwind of God’s wrath and indignation! Hosea 8:7 says, “For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind…”
America today is not the same as the America of yesterday. We have pastors and preachers (or hirelings rather – John 10:12) who have become cowards and will not speak the truth. We have leaders and politicians (rather than statesmen), who instead of fighting against tyranny have become the tyrants. This nation, for the most part, has turned her back on God and God is not pleased.
Be assured America, you will reap what you sow. “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7) And a nation that sows wickedness will not go unpunished by God. There’s a whirlwind coming America. It’s at our front door. Now, what are you going to do about it?
