CalExit: California Submits Secession Proposal to Secretary of State

We reported that following the election of Donald Trump as President, both Oregon and California began to push for secession from the united States, which in my opinion was not necessarily a bad thing since both are controlled by socialists and communists.  Now, the Golden State has actually submitted a secession proposal the Secretary of State.  CalExit is now being pushed by Leftists.

California Nationhood, the proposed constitutional amendment, would ask voters to repeal language that states the U.S. Constitution is the supreme law. If approved, it calls for scheduling a vote in 2019 to ask voters, “Should California become a free, sovereign and independent country?”

Under our Constitution, California should already be recognized as a “free, sovereign and independent country.”

“America already hates California, and America votes on emotions,” vice president of Yes California Marcus Evans said. “I think we’d have the votes today if we held it.”

Fox News Reports:

A proposal for California to secede from the United States was submitted to the Secretary of State’s Office Thursday.

The proposed “Calexit” initiative – its name borrowed from the UK’s “Brexit” departure from the EU – would ask voters to repeal part of the state constitution that declares California an inseparable part of the U.S.

A recent poll found that one in three California residents would support a possible secession from the U.S. due to their opposition to President Trump. No mention has been made of the president in the proposal.

If the proposal qualifies for the ballot and is approved by voters, it could be a step to a future vote on whether the state would break away from the rest of the nation.

Yes California Independence Campaign was cleared to begin attempting to obtain roughly 600,000 voter signatures needed to place the proposal on the ballot, according to Secretary of State Alex Padilla.  Here’s a video outlining the proposal.

This is not the first time California has made attempts to break away from the US.  In 2013, there was a pitch to break California up into six separate states by a Silicon Valley investor.  That obviously failed.

California, like all states, is supposed to be its own sovereign country and as such does have the lawful right to secede.  It really is both obvious they have this right and biblical.

While I believe California has the right of secession, it seems ridiculous to me to secede over the election of Donald Trump to the White House, but I say, let them do it if that’s what they want to do.

Valid voter signatures must be submitted by July 25 to qualify for the ballot.
