Christians need to be Weapons of Mass Disruption

The word “disrupt,” as defined by the dictionary means, “to throw into confusion or disorder…to break, break apart, break up or burst…to interrupt or impede the progress, movement or procedure of.” A disruption is “an act of delaying or interrupting the continuity…an event that results in a displacement or discontinuity.”

No one does disruption like Jesus! Even the announcement of His birth on a night long ago brought an amazing burst of glory from heaven disrupting the boring routine of a group of lowly shepherds in the hills around Bethlehem (Luke 2:13-14).

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

As a boy of twelve, He disrupted the thinking of the teachers in the temple at Jerusalem (Luke 2:41-47).

In His early thirties He disrupted synagogue services by casting demons out of people who met there (Mark 1:23-28, 39).

He disrupted a funeral procession outside the city of Nain by raising a widow’s son from the dead (Luke 7:11-17).

His words, “Lazarus, come forth!” (John 11:43-45) brought life to this good friend of His who was dead and had been buried in a tomb for four days.

He disrupted a self-righteous mob of religious hypocrites intent upon stoning a woman caught in the act of adultery (John 8:1-12).

He disrupted the ungodly commerce defiling temple by overturning the tables of the money exchangers and driving out all the greedy merchants (Matthew 21:12-17).

He disrupted the phony piety of the scribes and Pharisees and called them hypocrites, blind guides, fools, snakes and whited sepulchers (Matthew 23).

When He died on the cross, religious symbolism and nature itself were disrupted. Darkness covered the land, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom, the earth shook, rocks split apart, and even some of the dead bodies of saints of the past returned to life and made appearances to many, and a Roman centurion believed in the Son of God (Matthew 27:45, 50-54). He disrupted hell and death by taking the keys and He will never give them back (Revelation 1:17-18). His resurrection disrupted and disarmed all past, present and future theories challenging the fact that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God (Romans 1:1-4)! He even disrupted the way we mark time—BC and AD!

When Jesus comes on the scene in mighty power, even today, you can always count on holy disruptions. It is high time for Him to come once again and disrupt our culture, our churches and our lives. He is tired of our vain attempts to put Him and keep Him in the perverted confines of unbiblical theologies, corrupted liturgies and puny programs.

Jesus is here now, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to break us out of our pathetic, sin-jaded lives. He comes to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed. He comes to disrupt our self-centered agendas and our hypocritical religious safe zones. He comes to break down the strongholds of our demonically infested lives, and set us free to know, speak and live the truth. He breaks up and displaces the evil within us in order to bring in His life, His righteousness, His hope and His love.

Could all this still happen on a massive scale in America? Or would we rather not have such disruptions? At the very least, could it still happen in you and me? If it does, we can move out with Him in the amazing agenda of bringing mass disruption to the kingdom of darkness by His Spirit, in His holy name, every day and everywhere He sends us!
