Cliven Bundy Renews Commitment Against Federal Overreach – Weighs Whether To Hold Govt Accountable Or Forgive

Cliven Bundy left His jail cell behind and spoke out immediately that he was unwavering in his stand against federal tyranny after having charges against him dismissed with “prejudice.”  More than that, he put Sheriff Joe Lombardo, who has gotten a lot of scrutinies not only in the Bundy case but also the Las Vegas shooting case, on the spot, asking if he would stand with the people or federal bureaucracy.

Does this mean that he will also be seeking a lawsuit against the government that brought an army to his ranch and endangered himself, his family and supporters as well as a government that broke the law to hide exculpatory evidence that could have helped his case?  That remains to be seen.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Oregon Live reports:

Fresh from his federal court triumph, Nevada cattleman Cliven Bundy wasted no time in renewing his range fight, asking why the local sheriff hadn’t protected his family and property when government agents tried to round up his cattle in 2014.

The ranching patriarch urged Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of Clark County, Nevada, not to take direction from the federal government, describing it as a “foreign” power.

“Sheriff Lombardo, are you going to represent ‘We the People’ or are you going to represent the federal bureaucracy?” the 71-year-old Bundy said Wednesday, standing outside the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department headquarters. The sheriff earlier declined a personal meeting with Bundy.

In response to Bundy’s statement, the LVMPD released the following statement: “The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Sheriff Joe Lombardo respect the federal court’s decision in the Cliven Bundy case. Mr. Bundy has his own beliefs and has the right to express his opinion. The LVMPD will continue to follow the law and has no further comment on this case.”

Bundy rightly said that Lombardo has more power than the president in the county.

“I want to ask him to be a constitutional sheriff with more power than the president of the United States here in Clark County with the only policing power,” Bundy said, recognizing that the sheriff is the highest law enforcement officer in the county and is the last line of defense against federal and even state tyranny.  “If he don’t, I guess we will replace him one way or the other.”

Bundy was also able to settle down at home to a steak dinner that was prepared by his sons and meet some of his grandkids for the very first time after being in prison for nearly two years.

“It’s nice to be home on the range again,” he said. “The cattle are just part of my life.”

If there is a press conference you should listen to this year, it’s this one.  The truths spoken here are very important, not just to the Bundys, but to every American citizen.

As to whether or not Cliven Bundy will seek legal action against his accusers, he is weighing his options.

“Now I either have to forgive these people, or I have to hold them accountable,” he said. “I’m not sure. I’m considering my options.”

Well, I can tell you that since not a one of them in the lot have been repentant over their actions and that Steven Myhre for one has demonstrated that by making all sort of excuses for his crimes in an attempt to rig the court, then Mr. Bundy really needs to push forward with holding them accountable, not forgiving them.

Lest you think this harsh and “unchristian,” let me point you to the words of the Lord Jesus.

In Matthew 18, Jesus points his disciples to how they are to deal with a brother who sins against them.  He said:

“If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.  But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed.  If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.  Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.  Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.  For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” -Matthew 18:15-20

The point of the passage is that the brother listens, indicating that he acknowledges his sin and repents of it.  This passage is also taken by many modern churches today to silly talk about binding of Satan and things.  Friends, that is not what this is about.  That was done when Jesus came the first time (cf. Mark 3:27; Matt 12:29; Rev. 20:1-3).

Additionally, Christ makes it clear that repentance is necessary.

Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him. -Luke 17:3-4

There has been no repentance, just excuse making. There has not even been any shame in the matter nor consequences for violating the law.

My advice to Mr. Bundy is this:  If you want the law to be followed, then you’re going to have to bring justice upon the criminal action that was brought upon you, and that means anyone and everyone involved from Judge Navarro to Steven Myhre and his team to Bureau of Land Management Special-Agent-In-Charge Dan Love and anyone else involved in acting unlawfully.

If you don’t do this, it will only embolden them against you and others in the future.  May God give you wisdom and success in what you do in the future regarding that decision.
