I wrote back in March that John Boehner, according to his own State Constitution, should not even be in office. Sadly, too many in his own state, including the State’s Attorney General are to spineless to enforce their own constitution. Yet, in Congress we are hearing that there is an attempt to at least remove the Democrat, I’m sorry, Republican in name only, John Boehner from his place as Speaker of the House.
Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) filed are resolution to declare, “the office of Speaker of House of Representatives vacant,” which would strip John Boehner of his office as Speaker. In other words, it’s a resolution of “no faith” in Boehner.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Meadows’ resolution (HR 385) reads as follows:
Whereas the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 114th Congress has endeavored to consolidate power and centralize decision-making, bypassing the majority of the 435 Members of Congress and the people they represent;
Whereas the Speaker has, through inaction, caused the power of Congress to atrophy, thereby making Congress subservient to the Executive and Judicial branches, diminishing the voice of the American People;
Whereas the Speaker uses the power of the office to punish Members who vote according to their conscience instead of the will of the Speaker; Whereas the Speaker has intentionally provided for voice votes on consequential and controversial legislation to be taken without notice and with few Members present;
Whereas the Speaker uses the legislative calendar to create crises for the American People, in order to compel Members to vote for legislation; Whereas the Speaker does not comply with the spirit of the rules of the House of Representatives, which provide that Members shall have three days to review legislation before voting;
Whereas the Speaker continues to direct the Rules Committee to limit meaningful amendments, to limit debate on the House floor, and to subvert a straightforward legislative process;
and Whereas the House of Representatives, to function effectively in the service of all citizens of this country, requires the service of a Speaker who will endeavor to follow an orderly and inclusive process without imposing his or her will upon any Member thereof: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the office of Speaker of the House of Representatives is hereby declared to be vacant.
Meadows said that the resolution is “really more about trying to have a conversation on making this place work, where everybody’s voice matters, where there’s not a punitive culture. Hopefully, we’ll have some discussion about that in the days and weeks to come.”
I think Meadows is about to learn the hard way that Boehner isn’t interested in a discussion. He is on the side of compromise and should be considered a domestic enemy. Meadows, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, has a 96% review from the Conservative Review, but has only a 70% review from the more constitutionally based Freedom Index.
“Every time defenders of freedom need a leader, John Boehner has failed us,” said FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon. “It’s time to remove Boehner from the speakership before it’s too late to pass bold reforms. Under his speakership, the Republican-controlled House has allowed taxes and spending to increase, and their agenda revolves more about pleasing lobbyists than standing on principle. It’s time to end the Boehner Blunder.”
“After three election cycles and more than four and a half years, grassroots conservatives have grown tired of waiting for [Mr. Boehner] to pass the conservative agenda he’s repeatedly promised,” wrote David Bossie, president of the conservative activist group Citizens United, at Brietbart.
“Time and time again, Boehner has failed to provide a vision or use the robust majority in the U.S. House — which conservatives provided him — to advance our policies,” he said. “Instead, Speaker Boehner has allowed President Obama to set the debate, set the terms, and summarily clean our clocks. Meekly, Boehner drifts along aimlessly and legislates by cliff and crisis, instead of bringing forward an optimistic agenda of bold colors that the American people crave.”
“Because of Boehner’s failure of leadership and a track record of broken promises, conservatives are ready for new leadership in the U.S. House now,” Mr. Bossie added. “Maybe newly empowered conservatives like Congressman Meadows will lead a revolt and finally take back the people’s House.”
So what does Boehner have to say about this resolution? “I’ve got broad support amongst my colleagues… It’s ‘no big deal,'” he responded.
In fact, Boehner even said, “Frankly, it isn’t even deserving of a vote.”
Yeah, it’s no big deal because he does have that support from sellouts in the Congress. These compromised men had the opportunity to oust Boehner before and have failed to muster the votes to do so out of fear that Communist Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) might get the chair.
I wish Rep. Meadows well in his endeavor, but believe that many Republicans just don’t care enough about the law, the people or the Constitution enough to back his resolution.
