County Clerk Defies Court Order and Refuses to Issue Marriage License to Sodomites

We all hope that the day does not come when we are faced with the choice of whether to obey the law of man or to obey God.  It would, I hope, be an easy choice, even if it was not an easy situation.  It is one that I have been blessed to not have faced, but a county clerk in Kentucky is facing just that situation.

Christian News reports:

A county clerk in Kentucky, along with her office, is defying a court order to issue “marriage” licenses to homosexuals due to her Christian convictions not to be a partaker in other men’s sins. (1 Tim. 5:22)

Kim Davis, clerk of Rowan County, was the subject of a federal suit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on behalf of two homosexuals and their partners, and well as two opposite-sex couples, after she declined to issue any marriage licenses of any kind following the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

So, we have a woman faced with the choice of participating in the sin of others or defying the law of men.  She has chosen to do what God commands.  Davis has defied the state to be faithful.  This is not to necessarily agree with her understanding of 1 Timothy, but to say that if she was to participate and thinks to do so is a sin, then it would be a sin.

To this, Governor Steve Beshear has tried to separate Christian and secular duties.

Christian News reports:

But Davis also sued Gov. Steve Beshear, a Democrat, after he declared in a letter that all county clerks must issue licenses to homosexuals despite their identity as a Christian.

“Neither your oath nor the Supreme Court dictates what you must believe. But as elected officials, they do prescribe how we must act,” he wrote.

Davis is claiming that Beshear is discriminating against her and other clerks.  She claims that the governor has allowed the Attorney General to refuse to do what he considers to be contrary to his beliefs.

Christian News Reports:

“[A]lthough Attorney General Conway was given a pass for his conscience about marriage without any threats of repercussion, clerks like Davis are being repeatedly told by their Governor to abandon their religiously informed beliefs or resign,” it reads.

But Davis is finding that this is a prevailing view in our culture.  U.S. District Judge David Bunning ruled that Davis cannot practice her faith on the job.

Christian News continues:

“Davis remains free to practice her Apostolic Christian beliefs,” he wrote. “She may continue to attend church twice a week, participate in Bible study and minister to female inmates at the Rowan County jail. She is even free to believe that marriage is a union between one man and one woman, as many Americans do. However, her religious convictions cannot excuse her from performing the duties that she took an oath to perform as Rowan County clerk.”

There is no way that Davis can do what these people are asking of her.  This is not like a Bugs Bunny Cartoon.  The hat you wear does not make your personality change.  This idea of Christian Faith is foolishness.  Davis cannot check her being at the door, which is essentially what the Christian faith is; our hearts are changed.

We are where we are in this country because we, as God’s people, have set aside the Law of God.  Without this standard to guide us in life and government, we find that an unrighteous standard must take its place.  I discuss this in my book: An Everlasting CovenantFind it on Amazon.
