In the clip he lists from 5 to number 1 in importance the most critical issues affecting Black America. Here’s the list:
5. Victims Mentality: “Nothing holds someone back more than seeing himself as a victim,” says Starkes. “Why? Because a victim is not responsible for his situation. Everything is someone else’s fault. And the victim sees little chance of improving his life. How can he get ahead if someone is holding him back? All this makes the victim unhappy, frustrated, and angry. This is how too many blacks see themselves, as victims. So much so that their victim status becomes their primary identity and their ruling ideology. I call it victimology. Unfortunately, many black churches preach this victimology. Many black parents pass it on to their children, inner-city schools teach it to their students, and the black media reinforce it. Meanwhile, the NAACP and other black grievance groups fundraise on it.”
4. Lack of Diversity: That is, diversity of opinion among Blacks. Blacks who have an independent thought and don’t blame whites for their problems are labeled as sell-outs, Uncle Toms, or race traitors.
3. Urban Terrorism: Starkes talks about the inconvenient statistics about the high rate of crime (offenders and victims) among an ethnicity that accounts for approximately 13 percent of the population.
2. Female-head of households: What he calls the proliferation of Babies Mommas, which Starkes said contributes to urban terrorism.
1. Black America’s allegiance to progressive policies.
I wholeheartedly agree with Starkes’ observations except for the order of importance he lists. I would put Victims Mentality as number one in importance. Here’s why. When you have a victim’s mentality or what Starkes calls “Victimology” your worldview is skewed. You in fact see everything and every event through the flawed prism of race.
If you see yourself as a victim you are predisposed to being manipulated by those who will reinforce your flawed worldview by telling you, you deserve some kind of special dispensation or compensation. Then what you become is victimized. Not by past slights or indiscretions but by the very people who say you are a victim and they will fight for your plight. Booker T. Washington saw this dynamic nearly 100 years ago in his famous quote:
“There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs – partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”
What Booker T. Washington was speaking on is those who exploit the victim’s mentality for financial and or political gain. He was speaking of Blacks who exploit other Blacks. But I would add to that government agendas as well who exploit the victim’s mentality for power. The liberal progressive agenda manipulates the false narrative of victim’s mentality so as to control the black community. And every 4 years or so around election time they beat the drum of racism. And the race hustlers the likes of Jackson and Sharpton tune up their rhetoric. Today’s new crop of race hustlers includes Van Jones, the Congressional Black Caucus and the Black Lives Matter Movement. Even liberal whites are in on the drum beating with presidential candidate Hillary Clinton playing the race card when it suits her to drum up the Black vote.
Progressive policies are destroying the Black community, as Taleeb Starkes so eloquently attests. But I would say when we as Blacks stop seeing ourselves as victims, and see ourselves as victors and overcomers as we once did prior to the encroachment of liberal progressive-ism into our communities in the 1960’s, then the 5 critical issues he has outlined will cease to negatively impact our community and we will heal our community and without government intervention I might add.

The Most Critical Issue Affecting Black America

Author Taleeb Starkes, whose stellar book titled “Black Lies Matter: Why Lies Matter to the Race Grievance Industry” narrates one the best short video clips I’ve seen on the Plight of the Black community in what he considers “the five most important issues facing black Americans today.”
In the clip he lists from 5 to number 1 in importance the most critical issues affecting Black America. Here’s the list:
