Enlarging Your Heart

“Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: Thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.” -Psalm 4:1

Many times in our lives, especially if you’re walking a true Christian road, you’ll find yourself in distress.  God often will allow you to be thrown into an ocean when you feel like you don’t even know how to swim, yet He will sustain you.  It is when we are in distress often times that the Lord can really speak to us.  We are listening, desperate for answers and being given a testimony by God.  What we don’t always realize is that it is the awful, uncomfortable, and distressing things that we go through, that are really enabling us to know more of the Father’s heart and will put us in a better position to be able to minister to others.  At times, it is at the end of a trial that we see God’s purpose behind it all.  The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8:

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”

I find it interesting that God created the four seasons: summer’s hot, but it’s not hot forever. Fall gets chilly, but even that turns into colder weather where everything dies for a season and then spring time finally brings forth the beautiful warm sunshine where everything blooms again.  God knew what He was doing when He created the seasons and He knows what He’s doing with you. God must have loved that change and created things that way for a purpose. Yes, nighttime is dark, but it’s not dark forever. The sunlight does shine in the morning and yes the sun is bright, but it’s not bright all the time cause the darkness is sure to come and so it is with us.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

We find ourselves always in different seasons of life. There are seasons of great joy and seasons of great sorrow. There are seasons of great distress and seasons of great relief.  There are times where you may even feel abandoned by God, but then, after the season you are in feels like it’s coming to an end or the lesson has been learned, you once again see God’s faithfulness through it all.  You see how He enlarged your heart to have more understanding and testimony in Him.  With testing, difficulty and trials comes the anointing.  With every scar that you have so to speak, you have a story to tell that can relate with someone else and bring healing to others and even yourself.

I could talk till I’m blue in the face and try to explain to a woman who has never had a child before what it’s like to have a baby and she will not have a clue until she experiences it for herself.  Because she has never had the experience, she has no testimony in it and therefore, cannot rightly relate to other mothers or speak of it until she has had a child for herself.  You cannot rightly speak of what you have never been though.

Take a look at the 101st airborne in World War II for example, what made those men so close were their experiences, testimonies, trials and tribulations that they went through together.  The Lord can bring you to a point where He’s causing you to let go of a burden, but on the other hand, He may be bringing you to the point where He is causing you to grow by taking on a new burden or task for a season.  He knows what things we have needed before we even ask Him. (Matthew 6:8)

I think when you whether a storm and get to the other side, you have both relief and a great sense of gratitude to God for getting you through.  If you never went through life and experienced anything, how in the world could you help others?  I guess my point in saying all this is that no matter what you’re going through, God will lead you through it. Testimony is a beautiful thing. It’s like the death of winter.  Everything pretty much dies for a season, but the beauty of it is that it all comes back to life again in the spring.

Regardless if you are in a winter season of your life or a summer time season where everything is blooming and wonderful, always stay close to God and let the Lord hold your hand and see you through. Never ever let yourself stray from Him even when things are going great, just hold onto Him even tighter.  Jesus Christ is your lifeline, your help, your shield, your protector, your best friend, your Lord, and most importantly your Savior. Never let Him go no matter what the season and He will always see you through.
