When it comes to the problem of illegal immigration we take a very different position than the President and the establishment of both parties. In fact, we believe that the policies being pursued by the President and the leaders of both parties are actually causing more problems than they are solving. The apathetic manner which our government has chosen to enforce the law has encouraged a tsunami of illegal immigration from the nations to our south, but because the practice is still illegal, it has also bred a black market in immigration. This has helped to strengthen the cartels, gangs and other criminal enterprises who happily take part in the illegal immigration industry in an effort to bolster their profit margin.
The most likely to be hurt within the illegal immigration industry are the poor, the desperate and the helpless. In recent months, we have begun to learn more fully the horrors of the dramatic journey from Latin America into the USA — and the more we learn the more heartbreaking the ordeal becomes.
One of the problems we’ve become aware of is the terrors faced by the thousands of children who are forced to make the long trip by themselves and at the mercy of some very bad people. Reports of horrible physical and sexual abuse of children by the criminals they meet along the way have become commonplace. For us the answer is simple: bolster law enforcement and toughen punishments for anyone found guilty of trafficking illegal immigrants and for those found abusing these poor people.
But that’s not the answer the Obama administration came up with. The Obama team instead chose to meet immorality and evil with government mandated immorality and evil.
While most of us were celebrating Christmas (and paying little attention to the news) the Obama administration changed the rules on how illegal immigrant children who enter the country without their parents and report being sexually abused are handled. Now, all aid groups, no matter their religious beliefs or moral values must send these girls to abortion providers. If an aid group refuses to do so (even on the grounds of violating their religious beliefs), they could lose their federal funding!
Dr. Susan Yoshihara of the Center for Family and Human Rights explains,
“Faith-based groups say this is a contravention of the rights of parents and a violation of the conscience rights of faith-based groups helping resettle the children.”
Yoshihara reported that the new rule was “fast-tracked” and that the administration says it would be “contrary to the public interest to wait until a public notice and comment process is complete.” She reports that the administration rejects the necessity for Congressional comment or approval.
Specifically, the new rules “require faith-based providers to make referrals for emergency contraception, partner with groups that provide for abortion, or notify the federal government that would make arrangement for the abortion.”
This is a blatant violation of the First Amendment guaranteeing our freedom of religion. Aid groups do not forfeit their Constitutional rights simply because they want to help those who are in need. Also, it attacks the very foundational beliefs of the people they are supposed to be helping. Many of these children come from Roman Catholic nations, Roman Catholic families and have Roman Catholic beliefs… sending them to an abortion clinic to be pressured into having an abortion serves only to fill them with shame, worry and regret for the rest of their lives.
The new rules are yet another disgusting example of the depravity and immorality at work within the Obama administration. Instead of simply enforcing our immigration laws and giving people less incentive to make the long, dangerous journey through Latin America to the USA, the Obama administration’s answer is simply to add more corruption to the mix and start murdering innocent children. This is not answering the problem; it is simply creating a new and even more heinous problem.
