Be forewarned the below video may be the most embarrassing 10 minutes in television history.
On Thursday a free college advocate by the name of Keely Mullen made a painful appearance on the Fox Business Network to discuss her ideas (and the ideas of her movement – the Million Student March) with Neil Cavuto. This was a BIG mistake for Ms. Mullen because her ideas are obviously far better suited for conversations where the person she is speaking with has no understanding of basic economics.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
When Cavuto asked the college protester what her group wanted to see happen she said that they were arguing for “tuition-free public college, cancellation of all student debt, and a $15 minimum wage for all campus workers.” When Cavuto asked how Mullen planned to pay for such largesse, she said that the 1% should be taxed at upwards of 90% of their income. Speaking of the 1%, Mullen complained “I live in a world and I see a system around me where there is a population that is doing nothing to contribute to the progression of society.” Apparently Ms. Mullen is blissfully unaware of the FACT that the 1% she is complaining about own and start the vast majority of the business enterprises that employ people throughout the world. Take their money, then people lose jobs and wages drop.
Fortunately, for each and every ludicrous idea that Mullen proposed, Cavuto was ready to respond with FACTS and economic reality. For example, Cavutor told Mullen that studies show that if we taxed the 1% at 100% it would only raise about $1 Trillion, which would NOT be enough to cover the things that her group wants to accomplish.
However, Mullen reacted like a typical liberal when presented with the facts…
“Yeah, I don’t believe that,” she said
