Fake News Police Facebook and Google Help Make Satirical Tucker Carlson Death Story Go Viral

Over the weekend, Internet censors Facebook and Google aided the satirical story of Fox News host Tucker Carlson dying in a car crash to go viral. Even though the site that sent out the story claims it is satire, it remained a top search on Google.

First, here’s a tweet from Derek Hunter (ironically a contributing editor of The Daily Caller, which was founded by Tucker Carlson) of pushing the story, and of course, someone challenging it.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Apparently, the story was traced back to a site called America’s Last Line of Defense, which claimed that Carlson had been “involved in a hit and run head-on collision on his way home from his live broadcast of ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight.’”

This led to a follow-up story and apparently, Facebook couldn’t control the viral nature of the story nor could Google.  So, their censorship did nothing to stop the story making its way onto the pages, tweets and websites of possibly millions of people.

To be fair, the site does not claim to be a news site.  In fact, it is clear in its About Me section that is a “satirical publication.”

DISCLAIMER: America’s Last Line of Defense is a satirical publication that uses the imagination of liberals to expose the extreme bigotry and hate and subsequent blind gullibility that festers in right-wing nutjobs. We present fiction as fact and our sources don’t actually exist. Names that represent actual people and places are purely coincidental and all images should be considered altered and do not in any way depict reality.

In other words, if you believe this crap you’re a real dumbass.

So, the issue is not that this was “fake news,” but that the site openly claims it is satirical, and frankly, they are honest about it.  Satire is written to make a point.  If people are too stupid to not follow through and check the About Me of a site that openly professes to be satire, then the site is not responsible for those people, who promoted the story as fact, being stupid.

Satire definitely has its place, and for conservatives to say it doesn’t who listen to Rush Limbaugh, well, I rest my case.  Limbaugh often uses satire to make a point, and does it quite well, I might add.

Sadly, too many people do not want to take responsibility for themselves in their fact checking and wish to just launch at anything as though it’s real and when it comes out that it’s either fake news or satire, they want to blame someone else.  In some cases, misunderstandings can occur, but this is so obvious that it should not have been missed.

I have had writers posts satire before and I usually log it as satire so that people will understand that is what it is, and yet, there are some people so incapable of reading that they have to chime in that it isn’t real, even though it is stated in the title as satire.

Perhaps, instead of lazy people begging government and Google and Facebook to censor free speech, like a bunch of Nazis, they should do their own due diligence and investigate the matter for themselves before sharing it with their friends via the Nazi’s social media system, which only promotes it in the Nazi’s search engine.

Clearly, we are seeing a growth in ignorance and gullibility, and this isn’t just true when it comes to news.  It’s true when it comes to history, our Constitution, and to what truth actually is.  As President Ronald Reagan once said:

“If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, as Jefferson cautioned, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed.”

America, it is your duty to be informed, not censored and not cared for under the nanny state or the Fascist media giants of Google or Facebook, if you wish to remain free.  Otherwise, welcome to 1984 in 2017.
