Thirty-five year old Brianne Altice, a high school English teacher in Utah, was facing charges of sexual abuse with an underage student back in September. Now, several months later, she has been released on bail multiple times and her latest arrest involves a third victim, a 17-year-old boy. She has already posted bail again.
Following her arrest in October 2013 and the revelation of the first victim, a 16-year-old, a second student, now 18, came forward during that time, a young man who was 16-years-old.
Deputy Davis County Attorney Cristina Ortega told the court that the student referred to his relationship with Altice as a “teacher with benefits.”
“One, the witness in this case was younger than 18 years of age,” Ortega said. “Two, she occupied a position of authority. He himself testified today that she was the person in charge, as she was his teacher and he was her teaching assistant.”
“She was able to use the system, the school system here, to have access to him in making him her teacher assistant,” Ortega said.
The Daily Mail adds:
Altice’s attorney, Edward Brass, has said in court his client denies any romantic involvement with the three students.
‘It is her defense that they did not happen at all,’ Brass wrote in a motion. ‘That she never engaged in any inappropriate contact with either of her students …’
Prosecutors said the teacher acknowledged to investigators that she had engaged in sex with the 16-year-old boy on two occasions. The teen was allegedly able to accurately describe the layout of Altice’s home to detectives as well as tattoos on her body.
But Brass has asked the judge to not allow those statements at her trial, arguing that she was intimidated by the eight to 10 male officers who came to her home last October to interview her about the allegations.
According to Fox 13, Altice was facing a “total of nine counts of rape, forcible sodomy, and forcible sexual abuse” before her October 9 court hearing. She is expected to appear in court now on January 15.
Fast forward to January 6, 2015 and now there is a third underage student who has accused Altice of sexual offenses.
Fox 13 reports:
Altice is now facing more charges for sexual misconduct with a minor; three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and one count of dealing in material harmful to a minor.
Court documents state, in this instance, Altice is accused of having sex with the minor on two different occasions as well as oral sex with the teen between Nov. 1, 2013 and Aug. 25 2014.
According to the documents, she also allegedly texted a photo of her “bare breasts” to the teen on June 7, 2014.
Following her latest arrest, she posted a $10,000 bail and remains unsupervised.
There is no question the young men knew exactly what was going and willfully participated.
There is no question the young men knew exactly what was going and willfully participated. I know because when I was that age many young guys thought like that. It was even encouraged by songs like Hot for Teacher by Van Halen, which glorified sexualizing your teacher.
However, teachers should know better than to engage in this activity, especially one that is married. Her arrest had its impact upon her marriage too. Her husband filed for divorce following Altice’s arrest. That divorce was finalized in December 2013.
Again, there is no question that this woman committed adultery. However, one has to wonder if the same steps would be taken with a man who had committed these crimes.
Frank Camp, after pointing out multiple comments about the story, mused, “Because this is a female teacher–one who is physically attractive, to boot–her crimes are viewed through a warped lens. Think of the reverse. Were a 35-year-old, male teacher accused of criminal sex acts with female teenagers, would they be so forgiving? No, they would not. It would be rightfully called out for what it is: a crime. But she wore a crop-top, so…”
True, this would have been unthinkable two decades ago to hear about stories like this. Yet, I wrote just last week about another English teacher in my home state of South Carolina who engaged several male students in adultery and had a five year prison sentence suspended to three years probation.
It seems that our culture’s decay has become so apparent that the women are being caught up in it and in the process, America’s young people are being abused as a result.
Again, I ask parents, why do you continue to ignore the commands of God about teaching your children (Deut. 6) and send them to indoctrination centers where they are subjected to things like this. If you love your kids, pull them out of the system and teach them at home.
