“I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.” – Thomas Jefferson
Every day, I do what most people do, I check my emails. You can get emails from everyone and regarding everything: conservative groups, take action groups, ministries, list supporting various causes, but it’s those emails about the state of our nation that I find very disturbing. The moral depravity in our nation and how demoralized and evil in many ways that we have become is just mind-boggling and frightening. When you see judgment turn backward, and that which is wrong in God’s eyes being now called right by corrupt man’s eyes, you fear for our nation.
A majority of people in our country have turned their back on God. Oh, they may not have blatantly turned to Satanism or atheism, but as the Bible says in Matthew 15:8, “This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoureth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me.” God is no more to them than an hour or two on Sunday morning. They don’t incorporate His Word, His Law or His Judgment in their lives on a daily basis. They go about their business and do nothing more than complain about the problems that they see in our nation today, but do they lift a finger to do something about them? No, no solutions or answers do they bring or even want to bring for that matter cause it might disrupt their lives or cost them something.
Our country was founded upon brave men such as George Washington, John Adams, and those who were willing to fight and put their lives, and their families’ lives on the line, for the future of their posterity. These men were courageous, God-fearing, and knew that their lives and their nation’s future were in the hands of God, His providence, and their willingness to act. How about you? Are you a doer of the Word or are you a hearer only? (James 1:22) Are you willing to act as they did?
When was the last time that you spoke up or spoke out about the evils that we see in America today? We have homosexuality, abortion, violence, blasphemy, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, suicide and the list could go on and on. What are you doing about any of it? Which one of these causes burdens your heart? Are you willing to fight for the next generation of young people, are you willing to speak the truth and back it up with your actions?
The corruption in our nation runs so deep and that’s only what we can see, can you imagine what the eyes of God behold that we cannot see on a daily basis? An old preacher once said, “If you haven’t found a reason or something to die for, then you haven’t found a reason to live.” What are you living for? As the old saying goes, “If not you then who? If not now then when?”
There will be no excuses when we stand before God on Judgment Day. We should be bringing forth the light and truth of God’s Word on a daily basis to the world because we love Christ and see what He did for us on the cross. As Charles Spurgeon said, “Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you’re not saved yourself, be sure of that.” Have you no desire for your country to be restored unto God our Father? Then be ashamed to call yourself an American. This nation was NOT established by cowards. As Elmer Davis put it, “This Republic was not established by cowards; and cowards will not preserve it.” Don’t be cowards, America. The right time to do the right thing is right now. Our nation’s future depends upon me and you.
