Hypocritical Union Seeks to Escape Wage Hike that it Fought to get Passed

When you fight for a rule, it is assumed that you are willing, and even wanting, to live under the rule.  If you try to get out of doing the thing that you are opposing on another, then you are a hypocrite.  So, when the union picketed and fought to get the minimum wage raised to fifteen dollars, it was assumed that they were seeking the same for all workers.  But this is found to not be true.

Fox reports:

Union leaders in Los Angeles are being accused of hypocrisy after being caught trying to exempt themselves from a new minimum wage law they tried to impose on others.

Yet after pushing through the new wage law, union officials are asking for a waiver that would allow any company that unionizes to avoid paying the minimum wage.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

This union has other motives.  It is one thing that you think that everyone deserves to earn a certain amount.  This idea, though misguided, is at least somewhat tenable.  But, there is an outcome, which has nothing to do with the worker, in play when you seek to not have this same rule apply to the works you represent.  It is a classic case of saying one thing and doing another.

“We say, ‘Don’t leave anybody out, don’t cut anybody out, a wage raise for all workers!'” Mary Elena Durazo, the longtime leader of the 600,000-strong Los Angeles County Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, told a cheering crowd of supporters at a recent council meeting.

“Don’t leave anyone out, well except for the workers of AFL-CIO.”  What do these people want?  What are they after if not better wages for all workers?  It has to be the destruction of something, the bringing down of the institutions they picketed.  These are businesses such as McDonald’s, Hardee’s, and other companies; companies that mostly employ young, inexperienced school kids.

“It was a real surprise that in the 11th hour that labor was saying, ‘well, we basically support a sub-minimum wage if a company decides to enter into collective bargaining,'” Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell said. “And that really is a complete contradiction to what they’ve been saying the last couple of months.”

It just may be that these labor groups were doing the thing they have done for years; provide muscle to the left.  When they need people to make notice or cause trouble, they manufacture these things.  They are well funded and organized.  They are ready to show up at a moment’s notice, and they are loyal.  Well, until they realize that this new law is going to destroy their jobs.

The turn is simple to figure out, and it points to why Americans can and will win out in the end.  This is nothing more than a pragmatic move on the part of the unions.  They followed orders, and then someone told them that there were going to be a lot of jobs lost if the minimum wage was set so high.  The market simply cannot bear such wage hikes.  This means these jobs will cease to exist.

When this is realized, the pragmatist changes his/her strategy and goals.  When it is not going to work, you change because you have no real beliefs.  You are simply doing what is best for you at that time.  This will prove the death of all such power the left pretends to have.  Then, Americans with truth will prevail; we simply have to persevere until the end.
