Billy Graham’s wife Ruth once said, “If God doesn’t punish America, He’ll have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.”
How right on she was. When I look at the state of our nation, men “marrying” men, babies being killed in their own mother’s womb (Proverbs 6:16-19), sexual immorality, violence, and outright lawlessness against God’s commands, what do we expect? Do we expect the Lord to sit idly by as men knowingly and willfully transgress his Laws? (The Ten Commandments – Exodus 20)
America has dared the justice of God time and time and time again. What once was a nation that used to be aflame with righteousness and the fear of God, has now turned into a nation that has, for the most part, turned its back on God.
Even now with the anticipation of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the redefinition of “marriage,”
which has never been in the history of mankind, do you think the Lord will simply wink at America’s sin? The audacity of 9 men and women who think they can ascend above the Most High? Even though the determination has not come yet, the stage has been set and America has dared the justice of God and spit in the face of Heaven with her lawlessness. And remember, he who spits against Heaven, shall surely fall on his own back!
The creation has had the audacity to think itself above the Creator. God is our Ruler, the Most High and although His hand is mighty to save, because He is a good judge, He must punish evildoers. For the most part, America’s “Pastors,” who are not the true shepherds of God, have become cowards. They are hirelings who desire a false peace so not as to disrupt anyone in their sin, ruffle anyone’s feathers or offend a soul for the truth’s sake.
We see corrupt and wicked politicians, kids who are materialistic and lawless who have not been taught a true sense of any morals and values. We see both young and old who are consumed with sports and entertainment, fulfilling their own lusts and living their “own lives” while wickedness consumes them and our nation. Yet, even with all this, we continue to think it will never hit home?
It is dark in America, but the hope is that God’s people shine best in the dark. Now is the time to stand up for righteousness’ sake. Now is the time to say, “If I don’t bow, I don’t burn.” (Read Daniel 3:16-18) Now is the time to lead, not to cower. Now is the time to show those that have gone before us that their sacrifice for our generation was worth it!
It’s time to stop talking about heroes and to start being one, even if it means being heroic in small ways. Take a stand in your classroom at school, stand apart from the crowd at your work. Call your legislators about unlawful bills being passed, start your own home church, run for office, preach in the open square…do anything, do something!
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
America is still worth fighting for and if everyone who thought that way acted upon their beliefs, the rays of hope and the light of truth would crush all the darkness that we face as a nation today.
