Some people think there is something called a “little, white lie.” First of all, there is no such thing as a white lie. To say that something was just a little white lie is plain wrong. What people do is they want to justify themselves by saying that they didn’t really lie. After all, their lie wasn’t meant to “harm anyone.”
We watch Navy SEAL training a lot because there are a lot of good spiritual lessons one can learn by watching them that lines up with Holy Scripture. One time, I was watching some SEAL training with my family and we heard this guy say in front of the camera, “Yeah, I have cheated before, there is a time to cheat.” He went on to tell of a time when the drill sergeant told him to go get wet in the surf. He went over to the surf when no one was looking and instead of putting his whole body in the surf, he put his hat in the surf to make it look like he put his whole body in the water. The point is, cheating is the exact same thing as lying. It’s called being deceptive.
First of all, the main reason why we should not lie is because the Ninth Commandment says, “You shall not lie.” See Exodus 20 for more details.
Just to show how much the Bible is against lying, God killed a man and a woman for breaking the Ninth Commandment who had lied. Acts 5:1-11 record the account for us:
But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
Let me ask you a question, how many lies do you have to tell before that makes you a liar? Some people might say, “Ah, 10 or 100.” No, it only takes one lie to make you a liar.
Some will say, “You have to lie sometimes.” No, that is not right either. The moral of today’s story is, you don’t lie, period. Remember, right must always be right and wrong must always be wrong.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
