American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), an organization headed by blogger Pamela Geller, won a round for freedom of speech when Judge John Koeltl (U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan) ruled that AFDI’s advertisements publicly criticizing Islam will be allowed to be displayed on New York City buses.
The advertisement in question – part of a larger campaign of AFDI bus ads deemed controversial by Muslims and the New York City liberal establishment – contains the phrase “Hamas Killing Jews.” One of ADFI’s ads features a 1941 photograph of Adolf Hitler and supporter Hajj Amin al-Husseini, a Palestinian Arab nationalist who collaborated with the Nazis, trained Muslim troops operating under the SS, and aided Hitler in crafting the Third Reich‘s “Final Solution,” in which millions of Jews were killed.
“Under the First Amendment, the fear of such spontaneous attacks, without more, cannot override individuals’ rights to freedom of expression,” Koeltl said in a ruling dated Monday. Although the judge said that he was sensitive to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s claim that the ad could incite violence, he added that the same ads ran in San Francisco and Chicago in 2013 without incident.
It remains curious that so many leftists in New York come down on the Islamist side of this issue, when every gain made by Muslims toward becoming an unassailable protected class means a loss to their civil rights, liberties, and possibly their safety.
Monica Klein, a spokeswoman for New York’s communist Mayor Bill de Blasio, said in a statement that the mayor stated “these anti-Islamic ads are outrageous, inflammatory and wrong, and have no place in New York City, or anywhere.”
Klein (who is also apparently twelve years old) added, “These hateful messages serve only to divide and stigmatize when we should be coming together as one city. While those behind these ads only display their irresponsible intolerance, the rest of us who may be forced to view them can take comfort in the knowledge that we share a better, loftier and nobler view of humanity.”
Hateful messages? Irresponsible intolerance?
Unless I am mistaken, Miss Klein is of Jewish extraction. How do these alleged hateful messages and intolerance stand up to the atrocities we witness Muslims committing against Jews and Christians every single day?
I’m curious as to how Miss Klein views Islamists’ ongoing derision of Jews and Israel, their ongoing promises to eradicate Jews to the last individual, their historical enmity with the Jewish people, as well as their documented collusion with Hitler’s Third Reich in annihilating six million European Jews.
What will you do, I wonder, when they come for you, or have you cornered in an alley, as they did CBS News’ Lara Logan?
Somehow I don’t think “Wait! I’m not a Jew – I’m a socialist!” is going to cut it.
