There once was a show on television about stupid criminals. Of course, many books a have also been written about these people. The latest to fall into this category is a man in Denver who apparently took a woman hostage as he was exiting a convenience store, but was too stupid to realize he was completely exposed to a police sniper.

If you really want to get to where the action is, move up to the 1:00 mark.

“The individual decided to come out holding a female hostage, at which time the officers told him to let the hostage go. He refused,” Denver Police Chief Robert White told reporters at the scene. “He then attempted to drag the female back in the store. Out of fear for the female’s safety, one of the officers fired one shot, striking the individual.”

The video footage is from January 13, 2014 and is the result of the Denver Police Department’s actions to save this woman’s life and apprehend the subject.

KDVR reported:

Police negotiated with the man for about an hour before he came out with a female hostage.

The man used the woman as a shield, while police yelled at him to surrender.

“He then attempted to drag the female back in the store. Out of fear for the female’s safety, one of the officers fired one shot, striking the individual,” White said.

The suspect was apparently hit in the torso, and he was listed in critical condition at Denver Health Medical Center.

“We heard a loud bang and saw the guy’s face just go back, like if there was a car accident. Whiplash,” witness Anthony Flores told 7News. “After that, he didn’t move at all.”

The woman was happy to be alive and was unharmed. The man, however, was not so fortunate.

He was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance, according to police and was in critical condition, according to the video’s description.

Here is an incident where the police did their job and did it well, in order to preserve life. Well done gentlemen!
