Minutemen United Protests Churches – Calls on Leaders to be Instruments to Save the Nation

If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battlefield besides is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.

Martin Luther

The spirit of Christ that was vibrant and alive during the Revolution among the Black Robed Regiment is still very much alive today. In fact, there is one group that is on the front lines of the culture war and they are wielding the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, against the professed church. As we have pointed out, a vast majority of American pastors are not preaching the whole counsel of God and are not teaching their people about what God has to say on major subjects in our culture. So what happens when the Church fails at this task? Godly men stand up and protest against them for failing to do the job they are supposed to. One such organization is called Minutemen United.

For many who don’t know the term “Protestant” was used to identify our forefathers who broke the grip of the Roman Catholic Church during the 17th century by protesting against the corruption in the church. This was the reason for the writing of the 95 Theses by Martin Luther, which he nailed to the church door at Wittenberg.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Today, however, a different sort of corruption has crept not only into the Roman Catholic Church, but also into Protestant Churches. That corruption is fear. It’s the fear of man that keeps pastors from addressing such issues as sodomy, the murder of the unborn, euthanasia, political corruption, the Law of God and a host of other issues.

So where does Minutemen United come in? They protest these churches and call them to repentance and an adherence to the Word of God.

Minutemen United Director Jim Harrison told Freedom Outpost, “If you don’t fix the church first do any of the symptoms really matter?”

“Why are we not reporting on the church, the cause of the problem?” he asked us.

After reviewing what the organization has done in the past, I decided to inform the audience in case many of you had not heard of what they are trying to accomplish.

Last year, Minutemen United was taken to court by Vineyard Columbus, one of Ohio’s largest churches. I’m guessing this church is considered “successful” by the coward preachers that George Barna referenced in his study. The “church” tried to stop Minutemen United from protesting and picketing outside the Vineyard facility over how the church was handling, or perhaps better stated, how it failed to handle issues like abortion and homosexuality.

The church staff and the members of Minutemen United had several sit downs together, but ultimately the church decided to take the group to court rather than listen to its message.

While the court postponed the hearing and said that Minutemen United were to refrain from protesting and stay off of church property, Harrison said that they were not out to “shake the church up,” but to get the senior pastor, Rich Nathan, “to see what is happening in America, stop being passive and convince other pastors.”

“Unfortunately, for the time being, Pastor Nathan, and many pastors like him across the nation, chooses to be more annoyed by signs in his church’s front yard sounding the alarm of moral decline than by the moral decline itself, vividly represented by the abortion clinic just down the street from his church,” read the Minutemen United’s blog.

The call of Harrison and his group has been in the form of signs that read “Please help us end abortion,” “Please help us defend marriage,” and “Men of God / America needs you now.”

Associate Pastor Bill Christenson said that the church believes in the rights of the group to protest, they just don’t want them doing it on their property.

While I agree with the church here about the property issue, though from the pictures, it appears that the signs are pretty close to what would be considered in my state to be part of the road (notice the distance of the telephone pole compared to the signs), what is most disturbing is the fact that the church will not admit its wrong doing. In fact, Christenson tries to justify the church’s lack of standing on issues by saying, “We do not agree with many of these confusing messages that they have on signs. Our church wants to communicate a message that everyone no matter race, political persuasion, background, we sincerely want you to discover the life that Jesus offers.”

What is confusing about the signs above? The only confusion I can see is if the Vineyard staff are preaching something that is contrary to those messages. One wonders what message Vineyard Columbus is sending if it will not be more outspoken on these serious issues, and that its concern is more about peaceful believers coming on church property to call them to speak out on the issues rather than actually speaking on the issues.

As for Harrison, he said “Our intent is not to harm anybody, intent is to save nation through the church.”

To that, I say “Amen!” So my advice would be for the Minutemen United to be on public property that joins the Vineyard property and make their protests there and my advice to the Vineyard staff would be the same as the apostle Paul’s to Timothy:

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
