[My] brethren, if anyone among you strays from the Truth and falls into error and another [person] brings him back [to God], Let the [latter] one be sure that whoever turns a sinner from his evil course will save [that one’s] soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins [procure the pardon of the many sins committed by the convert].” -James 5:19-20 Amplified Bible
Many, including genuine believers in Jesus Christ, have strayed from the truth and have fallen into error. Why? In part because many have come under the influence, to one degree or another, of churches whose core teachings and practices are far removed from what the Bible declares to be correct. In their attempts to become seeker friendly and relevant to a wicked, self-centered culture, these churches are presenting “another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ (Galatians 1: 6b-7).”
A simple test: Study Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, the Book of Acts and the epistles very closely. Then take a good look at the church you are currently attending, if you are attending one. Is it lined up to or far removed from the prescribed pattern of the Word of God? How is it conducting its operations? What is their real agenda?
And what is yours?
Are the preachers you are now listening to false prophets, full of seducing spirits and doctrines of demons (I Timothy 4:1-2)? Are they communicating visions of their own hearts, not ones from the Lord (Jeremiah 14:14; 23:14-17)? Are they turning your ears from the truth to fables (II Timothy 4:3-4)?
Or are they true, humble, gracious, loving men and women courageously preaching and living the rock solid, wonderful gospel of grace which powerfully enables them, you and me to live victoriously over the lies of Satan and the bondages of sin?
Our nation is paying an enormous price at every level because of our ignorance and rebellion against God’s Word. Most of our churches have not rightly divided, and have oftentimes blatantly rejected, the word of truth. Unbiblical traditions have increasingly displaced truth and programs have become cheap substitutes for Christ’s power. We prefer our ideas to God’s, our agenda to His, and yet we plead for His approval. How then can we turn sinners from their evil course to the truth that will set them free if we ourselves are caught in Satan’s webs of error?
Jesus Christ came to seek and to save the lost, and to destroy the works of the devil (Matthew 20:28; 18:11; I Timothy 1:15; I John 3:8). When was the last time Jesus helped you really get through to a sinner to the point where he or she turned from their deadly course, the powers of darkness over their lives were broken and they came to enjoy living righteously according to God’s pardoning mercy and amazing grace?
Saving someone from eternal death in the lake of fire and giving them new life now and forever is at the core of God’s agenda. It is to be a major part of ours as well.
Has God’s agenda been your missing agenda? If so, it’s high time for you to relocate it and do your part to get it done!
“It was God [personally present] in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world to favor with Himself, not counting up and holding against [men] their trespasses [but cancelling them], and committing to us the message of reconciliation (of the restoration to favor). So we are Christ’s ambassadors, God making His appeal as it were through us. We [as Christ’s personal representatives] beg you for His sake to lay hold of the divine favor [now offered you] and be reconciled to God. For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become [endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].” -II Corinthians 5:19-21 Amplified Bible
