Now it’s the GOP not wanting to reveal the contents of “Obamacare Lite” Bill

As usual, it seems that the Republican Party may end up being its own worst enemy. After years of promising to repeal Obamacare, the GOP finally has the ability to ACTUALLY do what they’ve been promising… and it looks like they’re going to fail.

Some party leaders have been secretly crafting a bill that has been dubbed “Obamacare lite” and will likely continue many of the policies already contained in the current iteration of Obamacare. Conservative members of the GOP have long feared that the Party might take this route, and now that it appears to actually be happening, the moderates are trying to keep conservatives in the dark.

On Thursday morning Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) attempted to read the bill that GOP leadership was embracing but was being blocked from doing so by armed guards!

But Paul was not only not allowed to make copies of the bill, he wasn’t even allowed to view the bill!

“If you recall where Obamacare was passed in 2009, 2010, Nancy Pelosi said we’ll know what’s in it after we pass it. The Republican Party shouldn’t act in the same way,” Paul told the media. “This is being presented as if it were a national secret, as it if it were a plot to invade another country. … That’s wrong. It should be done openly in the public. And conservatives who have objections that don’t want Obamacare-lite should be able to see the bill.”

Per a report in Politico:

Paul had an exchange with a staffer as he attempted to obtain the draft bill, which could be voted on later this month.

“I said I liked to get a copy and they said, ‘no go.’ She wouldn’t tell us anything really,” Paul said in an interview afterward. “Even if I were allowed to look at it, which it didn’t look like I was, how is that democracy?”

Senator Paul is right. This is no way for the GOP to handle the writing and preparation of the Obamacare repeal. Hopefully, this is not a harbinger of things to come and the GOP isn’t preparing to stab their supporters in the back by refusing to repeal Obamacare in its entirety.

UPDATE: Sadly, it seems that the GOP may indeed force a revamped Obamacare onto conservatives.

From Politico:

Privately, senior Republican lawmakers and staff are more blunt. They say they have no problem steamrolling conservatives by daring them to vote against an Obamacare repeal that their constituents have demanded for years.

“Conservatives are going to be in a box,” said one senior Republican lawmaker. Trump, the source predicted, eventually will “go out front and … tell the conservatives … they’re either for this or for keeping Obamacare.”
