Proof That Medicaid Is Socialism & Hurts America

Editor’s Note: While conservatives may not be making an argument to abolish Medicaid, they should.  This study clearly shows that it is Socialism and is dependent upon people working so they can pay for someone else’s healthcare via the government.

We Conservatives are often categorized by our leftist opponents as cold, heartless, and greedy.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

It’s not true.

In fact, I often argue the exact opposite that it is the policies of the left that create pain, wreak havoc, and promote greed.

A recent report on Medicaid serves to illustrate my point perfectly.

While many Americans often think of Medicaid as a safety-net by which poor Americans can get the care they need but can’t afford, the reality is that Medicaid doesn’t help our poor population, it actually cripples them.

Medicaid actually makes Americans less capable of escaping the mire of poverty.

The Foundation for Government Accountability has just released a new paper which quantitatively PROVES that Medicaid is creating a system of dependency, but that implementing work requirements would end that vicious cycle.

Here’s a short summary of what the research shows:

  • 52 percent of non-disabled adults on Medicaid do not work at all.
  • Since 2000, Medicaid enrollment has more than doubled, with the number of able-bodied adults more than quadrupling.
  • In the past year, taxpayers spent more than $632 billion on Medicaid, more than triple the $206 billion spent in 2000. Enrollment, including the expansion of ObamaCare, made up for 70 percent of the spending increase.
  • In 2000, Medicaid was 19.5 percent of state budgets—today, it is 30 percent. Nearly one in every three dollars goes to Medicaid.

The argument that conservatives are making isn’t that Medicaid should be abolished because there are Americans who legitimately NEED the help at various points in their lives.

No, the conservative solution to ending the ugly cycle of dependency and helping Americans escape poverty is to include a work requirement into the Medicaid system.

“FGA’s past research has shown that the most effective way to free people from the trap of dependency is through work—and Medicaid should be no exception. Since 2000, the number of people enrolled in Medicaid has more than doubled. Total Medicaid spending has nearly tripled since 2000 and spending on able-bodied adults has increased by an astonishing 700 percent. Not only is this unsustainable, but it’s limiting our ability to help the truly needy,” said one of the paper’s co-authors.

“We know work requirements work. We’ve seen them work in Kansas, and Maine, and in states across the nation. When able-bodied adults gain their independence through work, their incomes skyrocket and they’re able to free themselves from government dependence. It’s past time for the federal government to empower states to enact Medicaid work requirements, added the other co-author.

This is it, folks. Read the Study. We literally have quantitative data proving our position is correct, this should make a major difference in the debate. The question is… will it?

Will the left and their friends in the media care that researchers have proven that work requirements make Medicaid work better for everyone? Liberals don’t usually let things like facts get in the way of their beliefs, so I’m dubious that they’ll suddenly embrace work requirements now, but one can hope.

We can hope.
