The matter of journalistic integrity has long been settled. Not since deep throat has there been any real hard nose news. Most of the time, presidents are lobbed softballs, questions that are easy and makes them look good. So, when an actual question is asked, then people, especially the president, does not know how to react.
CBS provides the transcript of the Q&A:
Major Garrett: As you well know, there are four Americans in Iran – three held on trumped up charges according to your administration, one, whereabouts unknown. Can you tell the country, sir, why you are content, with all of the fanfare around this [nuclear] deal to leave the conscience of this nation, the strength of this nation, unaccounted for, in relation to these four Americans?
And last week, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said under no circumstances should there be any relief for Iran in terms of ballistic missiles or conventional weapons. It was perceived that that was a last-minute capitulation in these negotiations, making the Pentagon feel you’ve left the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff hung out to dry. Could you comment?
Now, I believe that it is only fair that I let you know that President Obama was very shocked, and visibly shaken by this question. He was not happy, and there was a long pause in the middle of what was coming. He did not like Major raining on what he thought was a “historic day.”
President Obama: I’ve got to give you credit, Major, for how you craft those questions. The notion that I am content, as I celebrate with American citizens languishing in Iranian jails – Major, that’s nonsense. And you should know better. I’ve met with the families of some of those folks. Nobody’s content, and our diplomats and our teams are working diligently to try to get them out.
Though the president was visibly angered and stammering to answer the question without cursing Major, he was able to hold his tongue. There is no surprise that the left came to the president’s aid and defense. But, it seems that Bill Maher was especially upset.
The same Bill Maher who bristles against political correctness and hurls obscene vitriol at every opportunity finally found someone who he believes crossed a line — that being Major Garrett of CBS News who dared ask President Obama a tough question during yesterday’s press conference on the Iran deal.
Maher not only called Garrett an “asshole,” the aging HBO comedian compared Garrett’s question to hurling the word “nigger.”
Now, we have to remember that this had nothing to do with the president’s person, but the deal that was just signed with our enemy. People that want to destroy us and our allies. Iran, the largest supporter of terror in the world. Iran, who as Major pointed out in his question, is holding 4 Americans on trumped-up charges. But to Bill Maher, this was equivalent to calling Obama the N-word. Not surprising, but stupid.
Why is it that there is no longer any room for debate? Why in America, can we not question one’s actions without looking to race, sex or sexual orientation? The reason is simple but fearful. God says that when He judges a nation, He removes their wisdom.
“Will I not on that day,” declares the Lord, Destroy wise men from Edom And understanding from the mountain of Esau? Obadiah 1:8
God allows fools like Bill Maher and President Obama to win the day, to chasten the Church and destroy the wicked. It seems it has begun.
