STOP! And Read This!

Have you ever heard that saying, “You’re so Heavenly minded that you’re no earthly good?” Nothing could be further from the truth. I think nowadays that people are so caught up with the here and now (What’s going on in the world around them) that they have become no Heavenly good. They are caught up in sports, entertainment, politics, and so much more that they forget about eternity and that one day they will have to give an account before God.

Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Now don’t get me wrong here, I am not saying to not be involved in the things that Christians should be involved in, but have you ever really stopped and taken the time to sincerely consider eternity and where you will spend it? For most people, the answer is no. When was the last time you considered this? Are you living your life so as to be able to stand before the Judgment seat in the righteousness of Christ with His blood that has washed you from your sins and have the Lord say to you, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” If the answer is no, then let me open up some revelation to you.

Let’s say that tomorrow you discovered that you had only one week left to live on this earth. How would you live your last week? Would you get right with God? Start reading your Bible and praying? Would you apologize to your spouse and kids for putting them on the backburner by having your business, sports or other hobbies take all your time instead of the things that really matter? Would you come to terms with your father or mother? Would you realize all of the materialistic pleasures you have been living for mean nothing? Bottom line, would you be scared to death to die in your current state? Think about it. Stop reading right now and take a moment to think about it.

If there would be a whole bunch of things that you would change and do differently, then you are not living your life right now. Don’t wait until you are on your death bed or even worse, where some other tragic way will take you to your Maker in a moment’s notice and you didn’t even have time to make things right because by then it will be too late. When you are made to see your sin in truth (The transgression of God’s Law, The Ten Commandments (1 John 3:4)), and that great love wherewith Christ took your punishment upon Himself, that will be reason enough and the right motive in your heart to come to your knees and ask the Lord to forgive you. Psalm 51:17 says, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. You should not come to the Lord because you just fear hell, you should come to the Lord because you see your wretchedness in truth, the love of Jesus that was demonstrated for you on the cross and your need for a Savior.

People are so busy today that they seldom ever really stop to contemplate their lives or their eternity. Let this be a warning to you, we are not promised tomorrow. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:2 “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” Now. Not tomorrow or 10 minutes from now, but now. The world in which we live, and the unimportant things which consume our time, are nothing compared to eternity. Take some time to contemplate your end and get things right with God now. If you have read this article, you can never again stand before God and say, “Nobody ever told me the truth.” Get it right today.
