The message that the top lawyers for the Consumer Financial Protection Board (CFPB) had for the department’s employees on Monday was – ‘Trump is in charge, act accordingly.’
You would think that such a message would be superfluous and unnecessary considering the fact that the President was elected over a year ago now and has indeed been in charge for quite some time.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Sadly, in our modern age of leftwing chaos, you never know which government employee is going to refuse to do their job simply because they don’t like, or they disagree with, the President.
It’s ridiculous, it’s counterproductive, and it flies in the face of 250 years of American history… but the Left simply doesn’t care. All they care about is power and they believe that by opposing the President at every opportunity they can win more power back sooner.
The latest example of this comes to us from the leaders at the CFPB.
This past week the agency’s director, Richard Cordray, resigned and named one of his deputies, Leandra English, acting director.
The only problem with this is that President Trump had his own plans for the position and he immediately announced that Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney would be stepping in to lead the agency for the time being.
Ms. English was not happy with the President’s decision and sued to keep the President from naming his own acting director to the job.
In response to the drama, the agencies top legal minds issued a directive to the staff advising them to obey the President (and Mulvaney) and to ignore the directives from Ms. English.

“Questions have been raised whether the president has the authority under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act (FVRA) to designate Mick Mulvaney, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, as Acting Director of CFPB following the resignation of Richard Cordray as of midnight, Friday, November 24, 2017,” general counsel Mary McLeod wrote to top staffers.
“This confirms my oral advice to the Senior Leadership Team that the answer is ‘yes,’” she wrote.
“I advise all Bureau personnel to act consistently with the understanding that Director Mulvaney is the Acting Director of the CFPB,” she wrote.
As the Washington Examiner explains the agencies legal counsel argues that while the CFPB may have their own set of rules outlining succession of leadership, those rules don’t supersede the President’s authority to make appointments.
Once again, it seems that the left has to be reminded that the President does indeed lead the Executive Branch. Even if they don’t like the decisions he’s making, or the way he’s leading, his subordinates do not have the freedom to disobey AND keep their jobs. President Trump is in charge and the bureaucrats better get used to it.
