Trump: Comey Lied Under Oath – I’m 100 % Willing to Testify Under Oath

In response to the non-fireworks testimony of James Comey on Thursday, President Donald Trump said that Comey lied under oath and that he is “100 percent willing” to testify under oath himself.

“No collusion, no obstruction,” Trump said.  “He’s a leaker.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Trump went on to tweet, “Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication…and WOW, Comey is a leaker!”

Referencing Comey’s revelations about his unclassified memos, the president implied that Comey lied under oath to the Senate.

“Frankly, James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said, and some of the things that he said just weren’t true,” he said at a joint press conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.

ABC’s John Karl asked Trump, “You suggested he didn’t tell the truth in everything he said. He did say under oath that you told him to let the Flynn — you said you hoped you could let the Flynn investigation go.”

When Trump said that he didn’t say what Comey alleges he said, Karl followed up to ask if Trump believes Comey was lying.

“Well, I didn’t say that,” Trump retorted.  “I will tell you. I didn’t say that.”

Frankly, I don’t know how he is not saying that since he is saying he did not say what Comey alleges.  Isn’t that saying Comey is lying?

Karl then asked, “And did you ask you to pledge loyalty?”

“And there would be nothing wrong if I did say it, read today, but I did not say that,” Trump said.

“So, he said those things under oath,” Karl continued.  “Would you be willing to speak under oath and give your version of those events?”

“One hundred percent,” said Trump.  “I hardly know the man. I’m not going to say I want you to pledge allegiance. What would do that? Who would ask a man to pledge allegiance under oath? Think of that. I hardly know the man. It doesn’t make sense. No, I didn’t say that, and I didn’t say the other.”

Trump also seemed to imply there were no recordings of his and Comey’s conversations despite the media’s attempts to get him to say there were.

“And you seem to be hinting that there are recordings of those conversations,” a reporter asked.

“I’m not hinting. I’ll tell you about it over a very short period of time. Okay?” Trump said.

“Why can’t you say now if there are tapes, sir? Why can’t you say that?” another reporter asked.

“You’re going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer. Don’t worry,” Trump said.

To be fair, Comey expressly testified that he leaked “non-classified” information, not classified information.  He specified that he purposefully wrote his memo to be unclassified following his February 14 meeting with President Trump, in which he alleges that Trump dismissed everyone from the room to speak to Comey alone about then-national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Fox News reports:

Comey implied he had been fired from his post for pursuing the Russia investigation but stopped short of alleging obstruction of justice. Comey suggested that matter would be considered by the special prosecutor recently appointed to investigate links between Trump associates and Russians.

Comey also said the president demanded loyalty from him during a private conversation he had with the president.

Trump denied that took place.

The president also said he would not rule out his previous claims that there may be tapes of the conversation with Comey and told reporters, “Well, I’ll tell you about that maybe sometime in the very near future.”

He added: “Oh you’re going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer, don’t worry.”

On Thursday, Comey said under oath that Trump had lied multiple times to him and was “confused” when Trump said in May that he was firing him over low morale in the agency.

“The administration then chose to defame me, and more importantly, the FBI by saying the organization was in disarray, that it was poorly led, that the workforce had lost confidence in its leader,” Comey said.

Even Democrat law professor Alan Dershowitz said there wasn’t a case for obstruction made during Comey’s testimony.  He tweeted, “We should stop talking about obstruction of justice.  No Plausible case.  We must distinguish crimes from pol [political] sins.”

There honestly doesn’t seem to be any criminal action in any of this that I can see unless there were lies told by Comey under oath, which would be perjury, but at this point it’s a case of “Comey said – Trump said.”
