Warfare & Battle: The Never Ending Promises of the True Christian Life

Whoever said this Christian life was going to be a tiptoe through the tulips was sadly mistaken. Whoever said that the Christian life was one of comfort, joy, and lasting happiness in this world was also wrong.  John Calvin had it right when he said, “Whomever the Lord has adopted and deemed worthy of His fellowship ought to prepare themselves for a hard, toilsome, and unquiet life, crammed with very many and various kinds of evil.”  How true that statement really is for the real Christian.

Think about it, if Christianity was not going to be a warfare then why in the world did the Lord tell us to put on the full armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-18?  Why would we have needed the sword of the spirit or the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, or our loins girt about with truth and so on if we were not going to be in a heated battle in this world, a battle for the lost and against the enemy of our souls?

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

I wish we had more true examples in this day and age set before us of real courageous Christians who boldly stood in the face of opposition and who were ready to fight the good fight of faith against the evils in this world.  Unfortunately, we do not see a lot of that these days. There’s a lot of spiritual warfare that goes on around true calls of God and in true ministries, but unfortunately, not many ministries really make a dent because they do not take a bold stand when it comes to issues that really matter today.

Think about it… the enemy in a warfare does not spend much time on an opposing force that doesn’t pose a real threat.  Why would they?  They’re not doing anything!  But when you see your enemy with great strength boldly advancing their cause and taking ground, the enemy of that force will attack and try to destroy that threat at all costs and throw every kind of weapon they have against them to stop them in their course.

The same thing is true in the spiritual.  How have you been fighting against the evils of this world? Do you experience any kind of opposition in your life because you’re speaking out against things such as abortion and homosexuality or are you quietly having your own peaceable life where no one even bothers with you because you are not a threat?

I truly wish there were more faithful real Christian people out there who were willing to take a stand. I truly wish there were those who actually felt moved to action out of a heart of love and gratitude for the Christ who suffered and died for their sins on the cross, but in fact, it is because they are not real Christians at all, that they sit idly by and do nothing.  Let their inaction move you all the more to action. So…in what category do you fall?  Are you the kind that has on the full armor of God and is advancing the Kingdom of Heaven or have you taken off your armor and sat down to a life of pleasure and ease that will be rocked for eternity at your life’s end?

If you say the ladder, then I pray this article pricks your heart to repent first and foremost before God and moves you to action to get back in this fight. We need to be faithful witness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and start acting like true soldiers of the cross who diligently fight against the evils of this world. We need not expect our lives to be easy because they will not be, but in the end, when we stand before God on Judgment Day, we will be found faithful.  In that day, well done thou good and faithful servant will be all we need to hear (Matthew 25:23).
