What Were You Doing When America Fell Apart?

Recently, I saw a post on Facebook from a lady who has been diligently in the fight to preserve our country and she made a comment that caught my attention.  She basically said that she didn’t want her grandchild to ask her in the future, “So, what were you doing when America fell apart?”

People do it all the time. They will ask an older person a particular question about a certain landmark in history. They will say something along the lines of, “So, where were you when Kennedy was shot?”  Or “What was it like growing up during the Great Depression?”  I have never met a person yet who, when asked a question about a certain “big event” in history, couldn’t tell me exactly where they were or what they were doing.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Let’s fast-forward now to 20, 30, or 50 years from now.  You’re sitting at the table and your grandson or granddaughter comes up to you and says, “Grandpa/Grandma, what were you doing when they made same-sex ‘marriage’ legal in America?”  Or “Grandpa/Grandma, what did you do to try and stop the murder of millions of babies through abortion?  You even found out that they were selling those babies body parts? What did you do to stop it?”

Pick any question you can think of about any one of the thousands of problems we face in America today. Picture your grandkid asking you any one of those questions.  What are you going to say?  “Oh honey, I was really busy at work then.”  Or “Oh sweetie, we were really involved with our sports and recreational activities back then. We attended a lot of football and basketball games, went hunting, fishing and were extremely preoccupied with our own lives during that time.”  How do you think your excuses will fair with your posterity? Do you think any of the reasons you use right now for why you sit back and do nothing will be okay with them? Or with the Lord on Judgment Day?

The Bible says in Romans 14:12, “…each of us will give an account of himself to God.” What do you suppose the Lord will say to you? Do you think He is pleased with you right now? These are some serious questions to ask yourself.

Today, my dad told me that my grandfather, shortly before he died, said he felt that his life went by (He snapped his fingers) just like that.  The Bible says in James 4:14 that life is but a vapor. It says specifically, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” One minute we are here; one minute we are gone. You never know when it’s going to be your time to go and that’s why (When you see the beauty of what Christ did for you on the cross and His sacrifice) you always want to live your life right before Him out of a sincere love for Jesus Christ in your heart (Romans 5:8; John 14:15).

During the earlier days of our ministry, we went to Walker, Minnesota and spoke to a bunch of youth.  There was a young man whose life was touched by God through our ministry. Sometime later, he ended up getting killed and Bradlee came back to Walker, MN to perform his funeral.  I remember someone telling us about a recording they had of him where he was giving his testimony or preaching sometime before he died.  During the course of him speaking, he had made mention of the fact that you have to have your “spiritual bags packed.” How right on he was.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:2, “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” We are not promised tomorrow. Some of you reading this article have delayed repenting before God. You think that when you’re old and you’re done having fun with your life, then you’ll get right with God. But what you fail to realize, is that death could seize upon you at any moment. Will you be ready?  If you say no, then now is the time to get right with God. Now is the time to repent of your sins (transgression of God’s Moral Law – the Ten Commandments – Exodus 20). After you get right with God, then it’s time to start doing and living the life of a true Christian in action (I John 3:18).

Or perhaps you are one of those reading this article and you think that you’re a Christian, but in truth, you are really not. You do not pray as you should, read your Bible, or have any of the fruits of true Christianity living inside you. In other words, you are not a disciple of Christ. You are not in the vine (Read John 15). No, going to church doesn’t count.  Living a moral life alone doesn’t count. You must be united with Christ through true repentance in order for you to be right with God.

Now is the time to get right and to do right. We have a job to do, America. There will be no excuse we can give our grandchildren or our posterity for generations to come. They will ask of us which generation dropped the ball? Will it be this generation? Will this be the generation that opened the floodgates of sin and immorality into America to a huge degree never before seen because they stood by and did nothing? Or will this be known as the generation that stood up and stopped it. I prefer the latter. There is no time to waste. There is no excuse to make. Let’s make our lives count for Christ and for posterity. May future generations praise the strength of those who stood up and had the courage to stop the destruction of America. After all, they are worth it!
