TSA Failed to Identify 73 Workers Who Were on Terror Watch Lists

In more evidence that the Department of Homeland Security provides no real security, a new report by the unconstitutional department reveals that the Transportation Security Administration allowed access to secure areas of airports across the nation to 73 workers with “links to terrorism.”

The Daily Caller reports:

According to the report, the 73 workers with terror backgrounds were identified out of 900,000 active aviation workers using the National Counterterrorism Center’s Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment (TIDE) system.

The report includes a table showing which terrorism codes applied to the 73 aviation workers, but it is redacted.

The reason for the knowledge gap is that TSA is not privy to some codes which are part of the “watchlist extract” included in the TIDE system. In order to include the new terrorism-related codes, DHS must issue a formal request to the Watchlisting Interagency Policy Committee.

Screening for aviation workers on terror watch lists was hindered in other ways, according to the report.

While airports are responsible for providing identifying information for aviation employees, the information is often incomplete. And that is a problem because of a TSA security directive which requires that the agency only initiate a security threat assessment for employees whose profiles have complete information.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“Our testing showed that TSA did not identify 73 individuals with terrorism-related category codes because TSA is not authorized to receive all terrorism-related information under current intraagency watchlisting policy,” the report reads.

However, the report also went on to attempt pointing the finger at the fact that those workers were employed by major airliners, airport vendors and other employers.

“According to TSA data, these individuals were employed by major airlines, airport vendors, and other employers. TSA did not identify these individuals through its vetting operations because it is not authorized to receive all terrorism-related categories under current interagency watchlisting policy,” the report added.

“TSA acknowledged that these individuals were cleared for access to secure airport areas despite representing a potential transportation security threat,” the report continued.

Yet, that makes no difference as TSA has been tasked with vetting these people, a job they simply are not performing well, and one that they shouldn’t be doing in the first place under our Constitution.

“In general, TSA relied on airport operators to perform criminal history and work authorization checks, but had limited oversight over these commercial entities. Thus, TSA lacked assurance that it properly vetted all credential applicants,” the report reads.

However, they are opening up the door for further digging into the vetting process.

“Further, thousands of records used for vetting workers contained potentially incomplete or inaccurate data, such as an initial for a first name and missing social security numbers. TSA did not have appropriate edit checks in place to reject such records from vetting. Without complete and accurate information, TSA risks credentialing and providing unescorted access to secure airport areas for workers with potential to harm the nation’s air transportation system,” the report reads.

According to the inspector general, 87,000 aviation workers did not have a social security number listed on their employee profiles, 75,000 immigrant aviation workers failed to list passport numbers and 14,000 immigrant employees did not list alien registration numbers.

But don’t worry, you feel safe because you have your rights violated, which are supposed to be protected under the Fourth Amendment, right? Oh, and don’t worry, no one will lose their job over the failure to perform what the TSA is supposed to be performing. However, there were recommendations that could be put in place to deal with their failure. In fact, there were six recommendations in the redacted report that the TSA said it would accept and begin implementing those recommendations.

Just last week, it was discovered that undercover investigators were able to sneak fake explosives and weapons through checkpoints in 95 percent of their attempts at dozens of airports across the nation.

However, keep in mind that it will not stop this unconstitutional and criminal agency. The department itself, along with Homeland Security are not authorized in the Constitution. That is just the beginning of the criminality. Through the massive number of cases of theft, groping, pornography, extortion and tyrannical behavior of this cartel and you should begin to understand that the TSA should be eliminated, along with Homeland Security for the good and safety of the American people.
