The vast majority of Americans of every race, sex, and political orientation support voter ID. It’s the most common-sense, no-brainer idea ever.
And yet, Democrats oppose it because they claim that illegal voting isn’t a problem and voter ID will just ‘disenfranchise’ legal voters who can manage to get an ID when it comes to buying cough syrup, going on a plane, driving a car, or entering a government building… but not for voting.
But the thing that never happens just keeps right on happening.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced charges against 16 people in multiple states in connection with alleged illegal voting, voter registration and other election-related crimes, including cases involving noncitizens accused of casting ballots in federal elections.
In a separate interview, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin said a broader investigation was underway.
Mullin said officials have more than 1,620 open cases and have made 151 arrests. He also said authorities are looking into more than 300,000 suspected cases, a figure he said continues to grow.
Mullin asserted that “every single vote that was at the hands of an illegal [immigrant], canceled out a citizen that was legally registered and able to vote.”
“One is too many, but the fact that we have 300,000 cases we’re looking into right now and 1,620 cases that are under investigation, and 151 arrests is unacceptable,” Mullin said.
And that’s in the teeth of determined obstructionism, such as New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill refusing to turn over the names of hundreds to thousands of illegal voters.
More than 6,000 non-citizens were accidentally added to New Jersey’s voter rolls due to a software error at the state Motor Vehicles Commission, Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced Tuesday, with “fewer than 400” of them casting ballots in various elections since 2023.
Earlier this month, the Department of Homeland Security alleged that New Jersey had more than 35,000 non-citizens on its voting rolls.
And New Jersey’s response is to hurry up and remove 6,000, or a fraction of them, while claiming that it’s an accident and hardly anyone among them voted, and then refusing to turn over their names.
Now multiply this problem around the country, and it’s not hard to see how we could get to 300,000.
