Congresswoman Barbara Lee Accuses Daughter of Cuban Refugees of Silencing Her By Not Letting Her Defend Communism
“Barbara Lee is a communist sympathizer who was a personal friend to Fidel Castro.”
Rep. Barbara Lee (CPUSA – CA) has been endorsed for the Senate by the McClatchy newspapers and (probably) by the Daily Worker, but it’s not helping. How awful do you have to be in order to be running behind Rep. Katie Porter? So Rep. Lee is looking for attention by appealing to all the Castro lovers in California politics.

On January 18, 2024, Lee attended a hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Western Hemisphere Subcommittee, which was discussing the topic of U.S.-Cuba relations. But when Lee, who was not a member of the subcommittee, tried to interrupt the proceedings with a rant calling for the full normalization of relations between the two countries, subcommittee chairwoman Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Florida) threw Lee out of the room. Wrote Salazar in a statement she released shortly after the hearing:
“Today, I exercised my authority as Subcommittee Chairwoman to not allow an off-Committee Member to spread communist propaganda during my Cuba hearing. Members are not entitled to join any Committee proceedings without full consent of the Committee Members.”
Rep. Salazar is the daughter of Cuban refugees while Rep. Lee is an accomplice of Cuban tyrants.
Describing Castro as “a smart man” and a “historian,” Lee also said in reaction to the dictator’s death:
- “We need to stop and pause and mourn his loss.”
- “I was very sad for the Cuban people.”
- “He led a revolution in Cuba that led social improvements for his people.”
- “He wanted normal relations with the United States but not at the expense of the accomplishments of the revolution.”
But Rep. Lee is whining that she was “silenced” in her promotion of the Communist dictatorship by a daughter of Cuban refugees.
“Barbara Lee tried to disrupt an important discussion about the Biden Administration’s lenient policies toward the Cuban regime,” Salazar said. “Barbara Lee is a communist sympathizer who was a personal friend to Fidel Castro, has visited Cuba 21 times, and has been a mouthpiece for the Cuban Regime since 1977.”
Speaking on journalist and political commentator Roland Martin’s digital show, Roland Martin Unfiltered, on Friday morning, Lee clarified that the process of speaking during a committee hearing in which a lawmaker isn’t a member is to request a waiver — regardless of political affiliation. Lee said she asked for a waiver to speak, but Salazar did not grant the Democrat’s request.
“She’s trying to silence me,” Lee said. “And what her move was today demonstrated that she really doesn’t believe in democracy. She believes in only her point of view; she does not believe in the inclusion of different points of views when we talk about Cuban policy.”
How much inclusion of different points of view was there under Castro? Or in California?
