Biden Vows to Take Break From Open Borders to “Shut Down the Border”

Sure. Sounds plausible.

The Biden administration has not only maintained an open border, it went to court to fight for the right to stop deporting illegal aliens, and sued states including Arizona and Texas, numerous times, for trying to secure the border. So this sounds convincing.

“What’s been negotiated would — if passed into law — be the toughest and fairest set of reforms to secure the border we’ve ever had in our country,” Biden claimed. “It would give me, as President, a new emergency authority to shut down the border when it becomes overwhelmed. And if given that authority, I would use it the day I sign the bill into law.”

The authority is supposedly pegged to 5,000 people crossing a day. While we’ve exceeded that number, 5,000 a day is insanely high on its own. It amounts to nearly 2 million people a year. Making that into the trigger would potentially tie the hands of future administrations.

And, more to the point, as Speaker Johnson pointed out, Biden has no interest in using the authority that he already has.

“Many of our constituents have asked an important question ‘what is the point of negotiating new laws with an administration that will not enforce the laws already on the books? If President Biden wants us to believe he is serious about protecting our national sovereignty, he needs to demonstrate his good faith by taking immediate actions to secure it. He should sign an order right now to end the mass release of illegals and dangerous persons into our country.”

A deal amounts to giving away the store in exchange for giving Biden more authority to secure the border to supply the authority that he refuses to use.

The problem isn’t that Biden doesn’t have the authority to secure the border, it’s that he has actually gone to war against any efforts to do so.

A basic sticking point in the White House deal was forcing Biden to end ‘catch and release’ policies.

We don’t know the full details of the Senate deal, but the media leaks have been bad enough.

Under the soon-to-be-released package, the Department of Homeland Security would be granted new emergency authority to shut down the border if daily average migrant encounters reach 4,000 over a one-week span. If migrant crossings increase above 5,000 on average per day on a given week, DHS would be required to close the border to migrants crossing illegally not entering at ports of entry. Certain migrants would be allowed to stay if they prove to be fleeing torture or persecution in their countries.

Moreover, if crossings exceed 8,500 in a single day, DHS would be required to close the border to migrants illegally crossing the border. Under the proposal, any migrant who tries to cross the border twice while it is closed would be banned from entering the US for one year.

A whole year. Incredible!

And every restriction has more loopholes in it than an old shirt. The biggest one though is that it’ll be up to the Biden administration to decide or waive any restrictions.

Since most migrants showing up are claiming asylum, 90% of this won’t even come into play. But the increase in mass migration and work permits for illegals will.

Right now self-deportation for illegals already here is a better bet than trusting Biden to stop the invasion.
