Former Subway Spokesman Jared Fogle & Accomplice Sentenced in Child Porn Case

The disgraced former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle and his accomplice Russell Taylor pled guilty in a child porn case and were sentenced over the past couple of weeks. Taylor was sentenced to 27 years earlier this week and Fogle was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison.

Taylor confessed to using hidden cameras to capture images and video of children as young as 9 years old in sexual acts. He then shared those images and videos with Fogle.

Taylor, who ran the Jared Foundation, tearfully begged and pleaded with federal Judge Tanya Walton Pratt for mercy, asking that the judge not allow him to “rot in a landfill of lost souls.” Mr. Taylor apparently doesn’t realize his own lostness to have engaged in what he did.

The Indy Star reports that though the case had come to a close with Taylor’s sentencing, there are questions about his wife’s involvement in the criminal activity.

The hearing was expected to be the end of a high-profile, sordid saga that began with Taylor’s arrest in April. Taylor secretly recorded children who were nude or in sexually explicit acts and shared those images with Fogle. Thursday’s testimony, however, raised additional questions.

Chief among them was the extent to which Taylor’s wife was involved and whether two other unnamed associates of Taylor and Fogle also might have been involved. One of those associates was affiliated with Fogle’s charitable foundation, which Taylor headed. Those allegations surfaced Thursday during questioning of a prosecution witness by Taylor’s attorney.

The witness, IMPD detective Darin Odier, declined to discuss that allegation further, citing “an ongoing investigation.” Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve DeBrota, however, confirmed after the hearing that “investigations are ongoing on people beyond Russell Taylor and Jared Fogle.” He declined further comment.

Taylor previously said his wife, who was not in the courtroom, placed some of the hidden cameras and reviewed video. But for the first time, testimony Thursday revealed there’s video evidence showing her helping.

“Taylor and his wife are both seen positioning a camera in a way to see this child naked in the bathtub,” the judge said, referring to a video of a niece younger than 10.

As if that was not all, according to documents filed by Taylor, Fogle wanted to use roofies (also known as the date rape drug) to knock out his child molestation victims. Apparently, according to Taylor, Fogle attempted to buy the drugs in 2012, but he did not say where that attempt was successful.

Fogle, who became Subway’s spokeman following an incredible loss of 245 pounds on what he attributed to a diet of Subway turkey and veggie subs, apparently was propped up by psychiatrist John Bradford during sentencing. How, you ask? He attributed Fogle’s crazy sex drive with his lost weight.

“Once he lost weight, it seemed as though in a short time he had hyper-sexuality,” Bradford testified. “There are brain disorders that can be associated with sexual drive.”

So, once again, people look to excuse the lack of self-control people like Fogle engage in and attribute it to such things as weight loss. Anyone else see how psychiatry attempts to clothe sinful men in fig leaves?

Not only did Fogle engage young, teen age girls in sexual activity, but he was found to have more than 600 images of child porn in his possession. He agreed to pay 14 of his victims $1.4 million, each receiving $100,000.

Subway cut Fogle loose, and Fogle’s wife is doing the same. Katie Fogle filed for divorce on August 19. Sadly, not only was Fogle involved in multiple crimes against others, but also his wife and children. The couple had two children.

Once again, I don’t know that justice is actually served in the matter. All those Fogle and Taylor committed a crimes against will be paying for their food, clothing and housing for the next couple of decades and their property will be held ransom to make sure they pay. While I’m glad they at least confessed to their crimes, we really should be looking at bringing forth real justice in America again for the sake of the victims.
