Armed 74-Year-Old TX Grandma on Armed Intruder: “I Tried to Kill Him”

A 74-year-old Texas grandmother was armed and ready on Sunday evening when an armed intruder broke into her home and stuck a gun in her face, but she grabbed her own weapon and took the intruder by surprise.

Rebbie Roberson was just about to catch the evening news when a man wearing gloves and a mask broke into her home and pulled a gun on her.

“And when I started to get up, he was in here on me with a gun facing me right to my face,” she told ABC 13.

“So I had to walk right out in front of him,” Roberson said. “I didn’t know if he was going to kill me or what.”

“I reached over there and grabbed this gun,” she said, recalling how her .38 caliber revolver was on a nearby table.  “And when I swerved around, I pointed it at him and he ran.”

However, Roberson was not just going to pull the gun on him.  She opened fire, leaving several bullet holes in the walls of her house.

“I’m not sure I didn’t hit him,” she said.  “I don’t know yet. I sure tried. I sure was hoping.  That was the scare of my life.”

“I tried to kill him,” Roberson added.  “Anybody break in on me, I’m going to kill them. He’s going to kill me or I’m going to kill him.”

Roberson says that she always keeps her gun nearby when she is at home and it looks like that habit paid off for her, possibly saving her life.

Police don’t believe she hit the intruder with any of her shots, but it was definitely enough to eliminate the threat to her.  They also side with her actions against the intruder.

“Every citizen, according to  the Texas penal code, has the right to defend themselves and their family,” said Sheriff’s investigators.

Bowie County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jeff Neal said, “It could have been worse for both individuals, both the victim and the suspect.”
