The US Military: The Best of the Best

Our military is composed of people that protect you, defend you, and put their lives on the line for you.

I will tell you a story of our military and their courageous acts.

This particular story of 4 Navy SEALs involved Michael Murphy, Marcus Luttrell, Daniel Dietz, and Matthew Axelson.

They were given a mission to do some reconnaissance on the Taliban in Afghanistan.

After doing the recon, they rested. As they were resting, goat herders walked up the very high mountain they were on, and the SEALs had no choice but to secure them with force.

After they did that, they had to make a decision about what to do with them. They decided to let them go and keep moving.

So, they decided to rest again, but while they were doing that they woke up because of tree branches cracking and met the Taliban.

They were doing pretty good until they had to jump down a hill.

Mysteriously, the Taliban knew where they were all the time.

The SEALS were taking casualties, but so was the Taliban.

Michael Murphy knew he was going to die.  So, he went on top of a hill in plain sight and called the base and told them that they needed air support and was killed on that hill (John 15:13).

After he made the call, the base sent helicopters but the Taliban shot a rocket-propelled grenade and destroyed the helicopter and the remaining helicopter had to retreat.

Murphy, Dietz, and Axelson were all killed and Luttrell was left by himself.

A man found Marcus and took care of him, but Marcus was scared.

Marcus Luttrell sent for help and the base received the message and sent men to get him out.  They were able to rescue Luttrell and he went home.

Michael Murphy received the Medal of Honor, and as for Daniel Dietz and Matthew Axelson, they were the best of the best of those men who gave their lives in defense of our country to defend us and to protect us.
