Are You a Thief?

Some people say you have to steal sometimes. That is not true at all! Some people also say, “Well, if you need to borrow five cents from your mom it’s okay to not pay it back. A thief is a thief no matter how much he takes or from whom he takes it.

For example, have you ever borrowed five dollars from your friend and then forgot to pay him back? Not paying what you owe back is a form of stealing. It doesn’t matter how big the amount or thing is that you stole. It is a lot like lying, you don’t have to tell 100 lies before you’re an official liar. Telling only one lie makes you a liar, like I wrote about previously. It is the same thing with stealing, it doesn’t matter how much you steal. You do not have to steal something really big before you’re an “official thief.” You are a thief whether or not you steal something big or small.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Let me give you an example and you tell me which one is worse.  Is it worse to rob a bank or take $.50 from your friend and not pay it back? If you say, robbing a bank is far worse because that is really bad! You are wrong! Stealing is stealing and there are no degrees of big or small to it. The main reason that we shouldn’t steal, is because the eighth Commandment says, “Thou shalt not steal” (Please go to Exodus 20 and 22 for more details).

When you steal, your sin is before God (Hebrews 4:13). Remember, God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows that shall he also reap (Galatians 7:7).

Here is another example. I was reading my history book once and I found this very interesting. In my book, there were Indians who would enforce the law with their kids. The rules were, if you stole or lied (and got caught doing it) you would be punished by your parents.

We are not used to that kind of discipline in America. We need to get back to the fact that if you break the law, you get punished. Then, when the people get it in their hearts, they will obey the law and obey God most of all because they love Him and want to obey His commands (Deuteronomy 6:5).

Our laws come from God, not man. Man is supposed to enforce God’s Law. Do not steal! The Eighth Commandment says not to and if you really love God, you will obey His commands.
