Many times, we hope that people will make the right decision.  We have wondered how long it would take the Army to come to the right decision. I was beginning to believe that they were not going to come to the right decision. But it seems that they finally have. They told the world Thursday.

Fox reports:

In a stunning reversal, the U.S. Army decided late Thursday to retain a decorated Green Beret it had planned to kick out after he physically confronted a local Afghan commander accused of raping a boy over the course of many days.

“I am real thankful for being able to continue to serve,” said Martland when reached on the telephone by Fox News. “I appreciate everything Congressman Duncan Hunter and his Chief of Staff, Joe Kasper did for me.”

As I reported, Sgt 1st Class Charles Martland was being drummed out of the Army. The reason was that he had confronted an Afghan commander who had kidnapped and raped a boy over a period of several days. Then, when the mother came to the Green Beret and asked for help, the commander had her beat.

When confronting the commander, Martland lost his temper, and he and his superior reportedly struck the man. For this, the Army had recalled Martland and was set to relieve him of his post. Many have taken up the fight to help Martland retain his position. And praise God they have succeeded.

I am thankful for men like Sgt. Martland. Such men give me hope that there are still good men out there.
