Las Vegas, NV — With cops like Caleb Rogers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on the streets, who needs criminals? For the last several months, Rogers has been on a mission that could eventually become the plot for a Hollywood movie script. Since November, he’s carried out a string of armed robberies, striking Casinos up and down the Vegas strip.

Rogers’ armed robbery spree came to a screeching halt in February, however, when he hit the Rio Hotels-casino, taking $79,000 in cash from their vault. Before that, he had robbed $73,810 from the Red Rock Resort and Casino in November and stolen $11,500 from the Aliante in North Las Vegas two months later.

He would’ve gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for those pesky private security guards at the Rio.

Rogers was arrested on February 27, 2022 and this week, the US Attorney’s office for the District of Nevada announced that he has been formerly indicted on three counts of interference with commerce by robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Brenda Weksler scheduled a jury trial for May 23, 2022 and Rogers has since pleaded not-guilty. This plea is in spite of the fact that he was seen on camera and was caught red-handed by security guards.

According to the indictment:

On November 12, 2021, Rogers robbed a casino in the western part of Las Vegas of approximately $73,810. On January 6, 2022, he robbed a casino in North Las Vegas of approximately $11,500. In both robberies, Rogers walked directly to the casino’s cashier cage and demanded money from the cashiers.

The third robbery occurred on February 27, 2022. As alleged, Rogers ran toward two casino employees in the sportsbook area and yelled: “Get away from the money. I’ve got a gun. I will shoot you!” Rogers climbed over the counter and shoved one of the employees to the floor, before grabbing approximately $78,898 and placing it into a bag. Rogers fled when the employees triggered an alarm. As Rogers ran toward the parking garage, a casino security officer tackled him. Rogers drew a .357 caliber revolver and, with his finger on the trigger, threatened: “I’m going to shoot you!” Security officers were able to disarm Rogers and restrain him until LVMPD officers arrived. The officers arrested Rogers and seized his firearm. Checking the revolver’s serial number, officers learned that it belonged to the LVMPD.

“A review of video surveillance showed Rogers walked with the same unique gait as he had during the Red Rock Casino robbery, kicking out his left foot and leg as he walked through the parking lot and casino,” the FBI said. “Rogers again appeared to have trouble running because of a problem with his leg.”

“A Metro detective asked Rogers whether there was anything that could have been done to prevent the robberies from happening,” the FBI agent said, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “Rogers responded ‘Nothing.’ ”

The Reno Gazette Journal reported that Rogers had been drowning in debt and this may have been the impetus behind the robberies.

Last November, TFTP reported on a similar incident in San Mateo, California in which a San Francisco cop was busted robbing a pharmacy. San Francisco Police Sergeant Davin Cole was arrested for armed robbery at a Rite Aid after pointing a gun at the pharmacist and demanding opioid pills.
