Assange: Not Turning Himself In For Manning – Conditions Not Met

Wikileaks’ founder Julian Assange said last week that he would agree to be extradited to the United States if Barack Hussein Obama Soetoro Sobarkah would grant clemency to Bradley “Chelsea” Manning, who is currently serving a 35-year sentence for leaking documents. Now, Assange claims that he will not follow through because the conditions of the agreement were not met.

First, The Washington Standard reported that the Wikileaks founder said that he would turn himself in to be extradited to the US and face possible jail time in exchange for Manning being granted clemency.

Wikileaks called the move by the Obama Justice Department to prosecute him unconstitutional.

Assange’s offer came just days after an interview with Sean Hannity, in which he said, “I have been detained illegally, without charge for six years, without sunlight, lots of spies everywhere. It’s tough… but that’s the mission I set myself on. I understand the kind of game that’s being played – big powerful actors will try and take revenge.. it’s a different thing for my family – I have young children, under 10 years old, they didn’t sign up for that… and I think that is fundamentally unjust… my family is innocent, they didn’t sign up for that fight.

At the time, the White House said they would not be granting clemency to Manning.  However, on Tuesday, Obama did just that.

Thought Obama did grant that Manning would be released in May, it was not the conditions that Assange sought.

“Mr. Assange welcomes the announcement that Ms. Manning’s sentence will be reduced and she will be released in May, but this is well short of what he sought,” said Assange’s U.S.-based attorney Barry Pollack via email reported the Hill. “Mr. Assange had called for Chelsea Manning to receive clemency and be released immediately.”

Wikileaks seemed to indicate that Assange is still open to coming to the US and fighting against the secret indictment against him.

He is also seeking help in funding his defense.

The White House denies that Assange’s offer had anything to do with Obama’s actions, but the fact that Assange remains free and can continue to expose the corruption in our government is a good thing as far as I’m concerned.
