How much of our pandemic response was controlled by the People’s Republic of China?
The arrest of Linda Sun shows that the PRC was embedded directly into the COVID-19 response directly at the statewide level in the state with one of the worst and most abusive responses to the pandemic.
A former high-ranking aide for Gov. Kathy Hochul and disgraced Gov. Andrew Cuomo was arrested along with her husband Tuesday on charges she acted as a foreign agent for China in exchange for millions of dollars in kickbacks and fancy perks such as salted ducks.
Sun shadily used her position under Hochul and Cuomo – who are unnamed but clearly referenced in the court documents – to turn the governor’s office into a virtual mouthpiece for the People’s Republic of China and Chinese Community Party, the bombshell indictment contends…
She looped Chinese counterparts into sensitive discussions, including one private March 2020 government call about the response to the then-burgeoning pandemic, the indictment states.
In one instance, Sun successfully got Cuomo to publicly thank “PRC Official 1” – who appears to be Consul General Huang Ping – on social media for helping line up 1 million surgical masks for New York essential workers, documents state.
The indictment mentions PRC Official 1 a whopping 42 times.
This is likely the tip of a much bigger iceberg. We’ve seen with the Walz investigation that China excelled at embedding its personnel and sympathizers into statewide offices. Much of the pandemic response was a local phenomenon. To what extent was China in control of it?
What enables China to control so much of our politics? Money, sure. But also our adoption of destructive Communist ideologies.
