Congressmen Call Out FISA Abuse: “Is This Happening In America Or Is This The KGB?”

When listening to members of both chambers of Congress on certain issues, one can apply the quote from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Act III, Scene II, “Me thinks thou dost protest too much.”  Recently, the Senate voted to extend Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which “allows” the US government to collect US communications in the form of emails and phone calls without a warrant on foreign individuals on foreign soil.  However, as has been exposed, the US government “incidentally” hoovers the information of US citizens as well in violation of the Fourth and Ninth Amendments.

As reported by The Daily Caller, “A classified House Intelligence Committee memo viewed by Republican lawmakers Thursday has been described as “shocking” and “explosive” by the congressmen who read it.”  What the memo exposed is blatant abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that could lead to the dismissal of senior officials at the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

National Security correspondent and FOX News contributor Sara Carter wrote that sources with knowledge of the House Intelligence Committee document called the report “explosive” and stated it would be no surprise if Robert Mueller’s “witch hunt” investigation into Trump-Russia collusion was ended.

Ms. Carter continued:

The House Intelligence Committee passed the motion along party lines Thursday to make the classified report alleging extensive ‘FISA Abuse’ related to the controversial dossier available to all House members. The report contains information regarding the dossier that alleges President Trump and members of his team colluded with the Russians in the 2016 presidential election. Some members of the House viewed the document in a secure room Thursday.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., offered the motion on Thursday to make the Republican majority-authored report available to the members.

“The document shows a troubling course of conduct and we need to make the document available, so the public can see it,” said a senior government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the document. “Once the public sees it, we can hold the people involved accountable in a number of ways.”

The government official said that after reading the document “some of these people should no longer be in the government.”

The document also apparently outlines “several problematic” issues with how FISA warrants were “packaged, and used” state several sources with knowledge of the report.

Over the past year, whistleblowers in the law enforcement and intelligence community have revealed to Congress what they believe to be extensive abuse with regard to FISA surveillance, as previously reported.

Texas Republican Representative Louis Gohmert tweeted Carter’s story almost immediately after publication.  Gohmert tweeted, “Read the CLASSIFIED @HouseIntelComm memo on repeated FISA warrant abuses. The truth may not set the guilty free but it needs to come out. Release the #FISAMemo: https://saraacarter.com/2018/01/18/a-bombshell-house-intelligence-report-exposing-extensive-fisa-abuse-could-lead-to-the-removal-of-senior-government-officials/ …

Representative Ron DeSantis sent out a series of tweets regarding the classified report.

While the report is classified as Top Secret, I believe the select committee should, pursuant to House rules, vote to make the report publicly available as soon as possible. This is a matter of national significance and the American people deserve the truth.”  “The classified report compiled by House Intelligence is deeply troubling and raises serious questions about the upper echelon of the Obama DOJ and Comey FBI as it relates to the so-called collusion investigation.”  “The classified report compiled by House Intelligence is deeply troubling and raises serious questions about the upper echelon of the Obama DOJ and Comey FBI as it relates to the so-called collusion investigation.”

Excuse me?  As the Queen stated in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, “methinks thou dost protest too much.”

Did not Congress resoundingly pass this piece of garbage legislation?  Yes, it did.  And, has not the issue of FISA abuses been revealed before?  Yes, it has.  Moreover, did not dozens of individuals in the alternative media warn the public and Congress about this potential?  Absolutely, without a doubt.  In a display of irony, the Senate just renewed Section 702 of the FISA act.  Unbelievable.  This is nothing new;  yet, these members of Congress act as though this is the first it has been revealed.  Their “selective memory” has refused to acknowledge the reported abuses uncovered several years ago.

Speaking to FOX news, Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry stated, “You think about, ‘is this happening in America or is this the KGB?’ That’s how alarming it is.”

Ohio Representative Jim Jordan said, “It is so alarming the American people have to see this.”

Also weighing in on the report, North Carolina Representative Mark Meadows stated, “It’s troubling. It is shocking. Part of me wishes that I didn’t read it because I don’t want to believe that those kinds of things could be happening in this country that I call home and love so much.”

Florida Representative Matt Gaetz commented, “I believe the consequence of its release will be major changes in people currently working at the FBI and the Department of Justice,”

He also provided a statement on his congressional website.  Gaetz wrote, “The House must immediately make public the memo prepared by the Intelligence Committee regarding the FBI and the Department of Justice. The facts contained in this memo are jaw-dropping and demand full transparency. There is no higher priority than the release of this information to preserve our democracy,” [The US is a republic, not a democracy]

Insert hysterical laughter here.

After turning a blind eye to eight years of corruption, lawlessness, criminality, and malfeasance inside the Hussein Soetoro administration, Rep. Gaetz wants the American public to believe this “explosive, classified report” will have the consequence of individuals being fired.  Puhleeeze!  All of a sudden, the abuses and violations are “jaw-dropping” and “demand transparency.”  Are we to believe the process wasn’t jaw-dropping before?  Well, Mr. Gaetz, this legislation should never have been passed and implemented in the first place.  Since it was, it required transparency from the outset;  but, that didn’t happen.

This is nothing but smoke and mirrors peddled to the gullible American public by government shysters in an upcoming election year.  Congress had no qualms about any abuses of the FISA Act.  In fact, the public was told, “this FISA court does not apply to US citizens”;  then, it was “these monitoring tools only collects metadata on US citizens incidentally.” Whistleblower Edward Snowden blew the lid off of what and how much information government gathered on the average US citizen;  it wasn’t incidental, but intentional, turning out to be more than metadata – it was content as well.  The reaction of Congress to the information provided by Snowden was not one of concern for Americans’ liberties, but the desire to charge Snowden with espionage, treason, and hang him from the highest yardarm on the Mall.

So, why the sudden concern for the massive abuse of the FISA Act?  It has been abused for quite some time now without nary a thought given about the violations against American citizens or the unconstitutional nature of the entire act.  And, with the indiscriminate hoovering of everything on everyone, why was the gathered information stored in the NSA Utah facility not used to recover all the emails Hillary erased using BleachBit?  Only members of Congress can answer these questions;  but, don’t hold your breath on getting any.  It’s possible with a “new sheriff” in town who has shaken the District of Corruption, some members of Congress could be attempting to soothe voters in the election year.

This is one of those “throw the dog a bone” indignations on a process known about and ignored for over a decade.  Interestingly, the Republicans in the House are just now learning of the abusive nature of this FISA Act when the alternative media, bloggers and YouTubers have been presenting the potential for abuse since the original passage, heightened with the election of the illegitimate Kenyan wanna-be dictator.  The true nature of the extent of the surveillance of the American public has been exposed for quite some time.  No one can truly believe Congress had no idea.

These members of Congress are engaged in a “distraction” ploy.  What is going on that the government needs the public’s attention focused on a report detailing extensive abuses with the FISA Act?  Who really knows.  But, this is a good time to tell these indignant servants of the public, “I told you so!”
