David & Goliath – Proof That God Doesn’t Play Around!

The story of David and Goliath is about how God used someone small like David to take down a giant through His strength.

David was a simple shepherd boy who tended his father’s sheep. He sincerely cared about his sheep. One day a lion came and tried to eat of his father’s flock, but David overpowered and killed the lion through the Lord’s strength.

Then another time, a bear came and tried to go after the sheep too, but David slew the bear.

Just goes to show you that you can be small, but in God’s strength, you can do anything.

David also played the harp. One day, he was summoned to play his harp for King Saul because the Bible says in 1 Samuel 16: 14 that “…the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him.”  So, David came to play his harp for Saul and when he did, Saul was refreshed and the evil spirit departed from him (I Samuel 16:23).

After that, the Philistines gathered their armies together to fight the Israelites.  And from the Philistines went out a champion named Goliath, who was a giant and hero among the Philistines. Goliath cried unto the armies of Israel and wanted them to send out a man to fight him. Whoever would win the fight, he said, would be the others people’s slaves. When Saul and the armies of Israel heard this, they were dismayed and greatly afraid the Bible says in I Samuel 17:11.

This went on day and night for 40 days. After this time, David’s Dad, Jesse, told David to bring his brothers some food and to check in on them to see how they were doing. So, David went to the Israelite’s camp and was talking to his brothers when he heard Goliath and his challenge. While the other men were afraid, this only made David mad because Goliath was mocking God and His people.

David said, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that defies the armies of the living God?” and decided to go and fight Goliath himself. Saul tried to put his armor on David for protection, but it didn’t fit or suit him. Instead, he took five smooth stones and his sling and went out to meet the giant.

David was only a youth but God was with him and David knew it.  So, he had confidence when he met Goliath. Through God’s strength, David took up a stone and his sling and slung it at the giant. The stone sunk right into the mighty Goliath’s skull.  Goliath’s body dropped to the ground and then do you know what his name was? History!  David actually used Goliath’s own sword to cut off his head.

Looks like the giant wasn’t going to be defying God or his armies anymore.

The moral of the story is, God can strengthen you even though you may be a youth and you can do great things through Him.
