Donald Trump on Bowe Bergdahl: He Should Have Been Executed

Presidential candidate Donald Trump has weighed in on deserter Bowe Bergdahl and has said he should be executed for his desertion.

“We’re tired of Sgt. Bergdahl, who’s a traitor, a no-good traitor, who should have been executed,” Trump said at the casino-hotel Treasure Island.

“Thirty years ago,” Trump added, “he would have been shot.”

Indeed he would have been. In fact, at least one soldier’s orders were to “kill on contact” as they searched for Bergdahl.

The comments came in the wake of Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s pulling his bid for Speaker of the House.

According to, Bergdahl’s attorney argues against him:

Bergdahl was charged in March with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. The Army conducted a hearing on his case earlier this month. His attorney, Eugene Fidell, said in a statement that Trump “has become a broken record on this subject.”

“If he took the time to study what actually emerged at the preliminary hearing he would be singing a different tune,” Fidell said.

Trump has, in the past, pantomimed a firing squad, Fidell said.

Apparently, Bergdahl’s attorney thinks there are “mitigating factors” as to why Bergdahl left his post, endangering himself and his fellow servicemen, one of those being Master Sgt. Mark Allen, who was severely wounded as he went looking for Bergdahl.

As for the claims of “mitigating factors,” Lt. Col. Allen West calls it “bovine excrement.”

“Let’s be very honest, there’s only one mitigating factor: Bowe Bergdahl wouldn’t have been in the hands of the Haqqani Network if he’d kept his arse on his combat outpost,” wrote West.

“Have we lost all sense of individual responsibility in our society and the military?” he asked.

Yes, I think for the most part our government has lost that completely. It’s never the person who does the wrong’s fault, is it? Just think, “It’s Bush’s fault.” And no, that is not some endorsement of Mr. Bush, it’s just an example.

Here’s how things used to go down with deserters. This is a scene from the film God’s and Generals, in which Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson explains that the crime of desertion is not a single solitary sign of cowardice, but is a crime against others. The events depicted in this brief clip are a historical reality. Watch and be sobered by what you hear and see.

“Desertion is not a solitary crime,” said Jackson. “It is a crime against the tens of thousands of veterans who are huddled together in the harsh cold of this winter. Against all those who have sacrificed. Against all those who have fallen. Against all the women and the children we have left alone to fend for themselves. I regard the crime of desertion as a sin against the army. Duty is ours, the consequences are God’s.”

Indeed. Bergdahl’s crime of desertion quite possibly resulted in his admission of several vulnerable points with America’s forces that resulted in IED attacks, as well as he put many men in danger, who were charged with going to look for him.

Though Bergdahl attorneys claim he was attempting to out his fellow soldiers, James Rosen had reported that Bergdahl had converted to Islam, fraternized openly with his captors and declared himself a warrior of Islam.

By leaving his post, for whatever reason, Bowe Bergdahl did exactly what Stonewall Jackson said a deserter does. He committed a crime against his fellow soldiers and all those who had previously sacrificed and fallen.

Bergdahl’s crime has led to Barack Obama and his Pentagon illegally swapping Bergdahl for five known Taliban Islamic terrorists, who have vowed to return to the jihad to fight those he deserted.

Therefore, in my assessment, Donald Trump is exactly right about the kind of punishment which should befall Bowe Bergdahl, and that is the penalty of death. Duty is ours, the consequences are God’s.
