Everything that’s Wrong with the GOP Establishment in a Nutshell

A story is unfolding today that is a good summary of everything that is wrong with the modern GOP establishment and the leaders that the Party has chosen.

The Washington Post has just released a story titled, Boehner and his allies prepare fall battle with conservative GOP critics.” The article relates the tough spot that Boehner is in, with almost enough House conservatives ready to vote against him as Speaker and a real possibility that he could lose his job leading the House. Tough times for John Boehner (R-OH), indeed.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

So how does Boehner respond to the growing possibility of a GOP coup attempt?

In the exact wrong way, by preparing for battle with conservatives… instead of doing the one thing that conservatives want from the GOP leaders – going into battle against the liberals!

The speaker’s lieutenants are openly girding for battle with the small but influential bloc of anti-Boehner conservatives, who have signaled that if Boehner cuts any deal that they don’t like with Hill Democrats and President Obama, they could seek to remove him from the speaker’s post. It is a threat that Boehner and his allies are taking seriously.

“The people considering this are being totally irresponsible, but Boehner’s guys, we’re getting ready for whatever may come — not out of fear, but with exasperation about what some Republicans are willing to do to their own party,” said Rep. Peter T. King (R-N.Y.), who is part of the speaker’s circle of unofficial advisers…

“This is a continuation of the strange virus that’s running through the Republican Party, which I define as a weird form of right-wing Marxism where people are using Saul Alinsky-type tactics,” said Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), a Boehner confidant, likening the conservatives to the late radical activist from the 1960s.

(Nunes conflates two things here – comparing conservatives to Marxists using Alisnky-style tactics. While conservative may be using Alinsky-style tactics, they are fighting against the Marxist trend that seems to have infected the GOP establishment. The conservatives want smaller government, less spending, less taxes, less regulations… it’s the GOP leadership that seems to have turned towards Marx.)

The article continues in the manner, with moderates spitting vitriol at the conservatives and conservatives explaining that if they had a voice in the decision-making process, this wouldn’t even be an issue.

The conservatives say their goal is to influence the policy outcomes of the next few months, rather than force a vote on Boehner.

“We don’t have a definite time frame. I’d say the question is still open about whether it will be done,” said Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the second-term lawmaker who filed a resolution in July requesting a vote to remove Boehner. “At this point, I’m not aware of any member planning to do it. Our focus is on the legislative side of what we’re facing in the next 30 to 45 days.”

And that about sums up what is the worst news that GOP voters could hear leading up to a national election. The Democrat Party has led for a decade, implementing disastrous policy after disastrous policy, they are unpopular, leaderless and completely uninspiring. (Which is why they are turning to a loud and proud socialist to save them from Obama 2.0 – Hillary Clinton.) Today’s Democrats are begging to be steamrolled, and in Congress the GOP have the numbers to do it, but our leaders are power-hungry narcissists. Boehner would rather keep his job and marginalize the conservatives than give somebody else a shot to unify our party.

Peter King, Devin Nunes and John Boehner are living, breathing examples of everything wrong with the GOP today. They despise conservatives more than liberals and they’d rather spend their time fighting us than fighting the Democrats on Obamacare, the Iran Deal, abortion, gay marriage, illegal immigration and more.

It’s just sad.
